Ubisoft Teams With VICE Media: Say Hello To The Real Pirates

"Is there any trick to aimi ..." No. Well, maybe.

Black Flag, the latest Assassin's Creed, is due soon, and to give you a better idea of what life on the Spanish Main was like, Ubisoft has teamed with VICE Media to create a series of documentary shorts. First up on the bill: Charles Vane, the notorious murderer who ended his career strung up at Gallows Point, Port Royal. But it isn't all Charlie, all the time; this short's as much about the island he called home, and the gear he used, as the man himself.

Wondering whether you'd like to swim with the sharks, looking for Spanish loot? Or maybe you'd prefer to swing from ship to ship, flintlocks at the ready? Maybe this will decide you, but don't make your mind up straight away. Blackbeard's the next short subject, to remind you - at pistol point, if necessary - what it means to be a hellfire and brimstone buccaneer.

Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag is due late November 2013 for PS4, Xbox One, and PC: October 29th for PS3, Xbox 360 and Wii U.

"Get a taste of pirate life". Why not travel to Somalia then or even better piratebay! ;) Also why do we glorify murderers and robbers?

Because pirates are free! Yo-ho!

It would have been interesting if they did go to Somalia though, but they're probably scared of being taken hostage or murdered.

Alright guys we only have two weeks left until Black Flag launches, do you think Ubisoft can break a record 50 videos on this game by then?

Because many people in first world nations have this imaginary image of what pirate life is like and some warped perception because of certain books and movies making it seem cool... The bottom line is people are ignorant and want to believe in falsehoods instead of the horrible truth.

Or maybe this game is about the 18th century pirates who celebrated their lives and freedom? Who made the equivalent of hundreds of millions of dollars, ran their own cities, and drank themselves silly only to fall asleep in some woman's cleavage? I dunno about you, but that sounds like a kickass life no matter how you look at it.

Hooray, the cynical, skeptical comments have already arrived.

Oh yes they made money of robbed goods and killed a few dozen people's, sank some ships and all the crews on them, took captives and kept them as slaves on their plantations all in good fun!

The reason we glorify pirates is because it's an exciting tale. We only glorify that part. We don't glorify the cabin boys dying of scurvy.
