NFL Receiver Dez Bryant Pays For Strangers' PS4s at His Local Wal-Mart

The Dallas Cowboys Wide Receiver made a bunch of people really happy last night.

Retailers all over the country held midnight launches last night so fans could pick up their new console. At one of those stores, a Wal-Mart in Dallas, TX, Dallas Cowboys receiver Dez Bryant was among customers waiting to make the jump to a next-gen console. Flashy NFL star that he is, Bryant wasn't content simply buying one PS4 last night, so he bought five: One for himself, and four for the first few people waiting in line.

According to Kevin White, one of the lucky customers who posted his account of the event on Facebook, Bryant came into the store, spoke to a few employees, then walked over to the line where paid for five PS4s, explaining that he was paying for himself and the first four people in line. Afterwards he hung around for minute to take pictures with people, like one above. (For the record, Bryant is the guy on the left.)



Whether its something as extreme as shoppers trampling each other on Black Friday or excited customers merely getting the short straw when their local store runs out of stock: Large retail events have a tendency to spawn tragic tales. It's nice to see that sometimes these high-intensity situations can end sometime end up with smiles rather than with tears.

It's always nice to see NFL stars doing nice things rather than...well...what 9/10th of every football story seems to be (Jerome Simpson just arrested on DUI; Dwayne Bowe arrested for marijuana; this Martin/Incognito story, etc.)

I also know they're human just like the rest of us but does anyone else find it strange that Dez Bryant is standing in line at Wal-Mart?

I just wish he didn?t do it at walmart: unless at some point walmart changed their policy of using their size to survive undercutting small retailers to drive them out of business and hiring tons of employees for the absolute maximum shitty hours they can without law requiring they be given any benefits, among other things I can?t remember. If not, screw walmart.

If you wish to take the most negative interpretation of events then fine. There's nothing I can say to convince you otherwise. At the end of the day he still gave people free toys of a high quality, which is a nice thing to happen to them, and that?s about all the story seems to be trying to say. And I'll say nothing more on the matter.

What wasn't reported is that in Detroit Calvin Johnson showed up at a midnight launch and bought PS4s for the first 8 people in line proving once again that Dez Bryant is really just a poor man's Calvin Johnson. . . . . Ok I'll take my obscure sport's references elsewhere now.
