Papers, Please Makes Round 3 of The Escapist's Reader's Choice GotY - Vote Now!

Indie gem Papers, Please took out StarCraft, and squares off against Bioshock Infinite in Round 3.

And then there were four. Round 3 of the Reader's Choice Game of the Year [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/tournaments/standings/10] will decide who faces off in the final round. Will the underdog Papers, Please come out on top, or will Bioshock Infinite finally take down the immigration simulation? The Last of Us soundly defeated Pokemon X&Y in Round 2, but does it have what it takes to take down its swashbuckling Round 3 competitor, Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag?

Round 3 matches are:

Papers, Please vs Bioshock Infinite
One document simulator and one epic escort quest enter Round 3, but only one of them will make it to the final round of voting. Will the glorious nation of Arstotzka rally enough support, or will the residents of Columbia garner the necessary votes to move on to Round 4?

Take to the forums to show your support for your GotY pick! [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/658.837094-Round-3-3-Papers-Please-vs-1-Bioshock-Infinite]

The Last of Us vs Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag

Do you like swashbuckling and plundering on the high seas, or are you more of a cross-country post-apocalyptic adventure person? Do you like hardened pirates, or do you prefer to play characters you can relate to? Black Flag took down GTA V in the last round, but you'll have to decide whether its run ends there.

Take to the forums to show your support for your GotY pick! [www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/658.837095-Round-3-1-The-Last-of-Us-vs-2-Assassins-Creed-4-Black-Flag]

Are you ready to vote? Just head to the official bracket page [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/tournaments/standings/10], and make your choices. Stay tuned for the final round, and the Reader's Choice for GotY 2013! Voting ends Tuesday, December 24th at 11:59pm EST, so you have seven days to rally your friends to vote for the game you think should be The Escapist's Reader's Choice Game of the Year 2013!

How the hell is that game outlasting GTA V?
On another site I'm on Papers Please was like the first game voted out, and GTA V is storming ahead hand in hand with TLOU.

It probably helped that it was up against DLC/Expansions in the first two rounds.

I'm voting for it over Bioshock: Infinite too. I haven't actually played many of the games chosen, but have played both of these. I thought B:I was fun and looked pretty amazing. OTOH, there was little player choice. When I finshed B:I, I pretty much forgot about it.

Papers, Please has really stuck with me though. The themes of the game were directly related to the gameplay. It made me think about how I would cope with being in an unwinnable situation (you might save your family, but hurt many other lives). It's not my favorite game this year, but it is one that I found really interesting. I wish concepts like that could be used in a AAA game like B:I, but I understand why they aren't.

I didn't realise that I hadn't changed my line-up to what I thought would win, as opposed to who I wanted to. My predicted final four are accurate, with the exception of AC4 instead of GTAV, but my line-up is only accurate with Bioshock Infinite and The Last of Us.

The Last of Us will most likely beat AC4, unless people decide to deny it based upon it knocking out Pokemon, or the fact that it simply has a smaller audience due to being an exclusive. Paper's Please and Bioshock Infinite will be trickier, as they are both hugely popular. Paper's Please has an almost cult following on here though, and that will probably help carry it.

Honestly the 2 games that I care about the most on that bracket were Papers Please & Enemy Within.

Really? Papers, Please? I bought it, I played it, and I got bored within an hour and never touched it again.
Don't get me wrong, it was a neat idea, it was innovation, and I pretty much bought it full well knowing that I would get bored of it quickly. I want to fund whoever and whatever tries to break of the box. But best game of the year and in round three?
No. Not even remotely close.

@Realitycrash: Oh yes, close. In fact, way over the top. Papers, Please is easily my game of the year. Nothing else I've seen has been such a triumph of graphic design, sound design, screen layout and clever mechanical efficiency. I've easily thrown more hours into Papers, Please than any other game.

I hate these kind of articles, especially the title. It's a push-pull, clearly the writer wants Papers Please to win.

Good for papers, please. trying something new, and doing so successfully should always be rewarded, so its recognition is merited.

I won't be voting for it, since I believe that, if not more important, story should at least be equally important to the game as its gameplay, but I'm happy to see it do well, all the same.

Having played Bioshock Infinite three times, I can confidently say Glory to Arstotzka!

I can't see The Last of Us being beaten by Assassin's Creed, but its a PS3 exclusive, so it certainly has its platform exclusivity to deal with.
By that logic, shouldn't "Papers, please" be equally handicapped by its platform exclusivity?

Papers please has at least 500 random people pushed here from from some Russian youtuber voting for it and AC4 has a huge bunch of randoms pushed here from the Ubisoft forums doing the same.

Bioshock and TLOU got here legitimately, but I seriously doubt they will get any further.

It will be Papers please vs AC4 in the final with which ever one has more pushed people winning.

And it makes this entire thing meaningless because whatever game wins is not the escapist community's game of the year, it's just the one who got the most votes from pushes.

But I suppose the escapist staff on the other hand are very happy with all the pushed traffic.
