The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask Prequel-ized in Live Action Skull Kid

A short, live action film has been released exploring the Skull Kid's origins in The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask.

The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask is, for many fans, something of a love it or hate it game. Some can't abide by its odd structure while others think it's probably one of the best things the franchise has ever done. It's quirky, it's dark and, perhaps above all else, it's a markedly unique game from a franchise than tends to steer toward the tried and true.

That being the case, if you've never played Majora's Mask before and are looking for an easy way to get in on all the hubbub, you might want to watch the recently released short film The Skull Kid. Following the Skull Kid in the days leading up to the events to the game, it chronicles his banishment from Termina's Clock Town as well as his theft of the titular Majora's Mask and subsequent vengeance. Its biggest success, in my opinion, is how sympathetic it makes the Skull Kid while still portraying him as being a creepy ne'er-do-well willing to drop the moon on a world full of innocent people.

At just under nine minutes in length The Skull Kid is an easy-to-digest slice of a game that, when you get down to it, isn't the most accessible entry in its franchise. Just personally, I loved The Skull Kid. That said, give it a watch yourself and let us know your impressions. Does it stir your inner Zelda fan or leave you wearing a mask of disappointment?

That's a pretty impressive work especially the ending and the little interludes. I especially liked the faithful Clock Tower and the appearance of The Moon.

What I would give for a tetralogy, each movie featuring a part of termina and the region temple.

Never gonna happen, but one can dream, right? If they can make a trilogy out of a single short children's book like the Hobbit, surely this masterpiece wouldn't be a problem to squeeze some screen time out of?

That was really good! I didn't quite get why that guard was out in the Fields hunting fairies (with a spear, of all weapons); but apart from that, good job!

And the music fit the whole thing quite well. They used a Majora's Mask Remix by Theophany, called Time's End [http://www.terriblefate.com][footnote]Be wary of sadness.[/footnote].
