Last Chance To Buy a Real-Life Halo Warthog Before It Gets Scrapped

It's yours for a cool $825, assuming you can pick it up from the UK.

Update: The Warthog has [a href=https://twitter.com/peterbcooper/status/417775028743045121]found a home[/a]!

Back in 2009, a group of dedicated fans banded together to make [a href=http://operationchastity.com/launch/]Operation Chastity[/a], a live-action Halo fan film. To that end, writer/director/producer Peter Cooper [a href=http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/95767-Halo-Fan-Film-Unveils-Full-Scale-Warthog-Jeep]constructed[/a] a full-sized M12 Force Application Vehicle, better known as the Warthog. The movie was eventually put on indefinite hold, and now years later, Cooper can't afford to keep it around. While he's been trying to off load the troop transport for [a href=http://kotaku.com/5967332/you-can-buy-your-own-halo-warthog-for-28000-or-nearest-offer]over a year now[/a], the time has come; the Warthog has to go by January 1st or it's off to the junk yard.

"Last call for Halo fans who want a Warthog," Cooper [a href=https://twitter.com/peterbcooper/status/417704268838096896/photo/1]tweeted[/a]. "If I don't have a confirmed sale tomorrow, she goes to scrap." Cooper's currently asking £500 ($824.40), but you have to be able to collect the vehicle from Hertfordshire, England. It's obvious that Cooper's pretty desperate to get rid of the thing, so it should be interesting to see if someone snaps it up in time.

The non-road legal Warthog uses a 1983 Land Rover Defender 110 as a frame, the entire conversion process of which is documented [a href=http://operationchastity.com/launch/warthog]here[/a]. The design was based on a toy model. When it was scaled up, there was only a 40mm difference between the two. It may not be quite as detailed as the one [a href=https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-js_jF7qeak]WETA Workshop[/a] made, but it's still an impressive piece of work.

Looks more like a puma if you ask me.
What about a walrus?
No, look at the sides! it's most definitely a big cat.

I would've bought it if I had money and lived in England though. It looks pretty decent.

Oh right! the chupathingy! It should totally be called a chupathingy.
How about a Unicorn?!?

OT: Interesting, and cool. Reminds me of the time friends and I were actually going to go to a junkyard and build ourselves a Waaagh!!! wagon aka a Junka Trukk (warhammer 40k reference) complete with dressing up in green skin makeup and driving it to a local Bolter Blast convention... Then we figured out we'd had nowhere to put it when we were done with it and scrapped (no pun intended) the plan. We even had plans drawn up (one of us was an engineer and a damn good welder) and all... We were going to do it in true Ork fashion too, just slap a whole lot of metal together in some random but ultimately useful configuration, with wheels and an engine. Make sure it won't explode on start, make sure it moves forward and backward (who cares about gas mileage?). Also must have spiky bits.
Ahhh I still remember those planning sessions. well the good thing was we did build an Ork army together complete with a miniature version of the Waaagh!!! Wagon (our pet name) using various spare bits and our own craftings. Yeah that was awesome in and of itself. Though it still would have been more fun to dress up and drive in on a lifesized version... And would have got one hell of a reaction.

Whatever, just wash your hands.
For under a grand? Hell, I would have bought it if I had known before the thing was sold. Although shipping probably would have been another grand or 2.

Not going to lie, I would have bought that right now if it hadn't already been sold.

I'm not even a big Halo fan and I'd have probably bought it given half a chance...

Damn. I totally wish I lived in the UK right now. I would have taken that thing off of so many sweet jumps.

Quite frankly, I'm surprised the guy had such a hard time finding a buyer, road legal or not.

The thing is, it's basically just a big model. You can't take it anywhere, so you're paying $900 for a yard decoration.
