Sailor Moon New Anime Premieres This July

The new Sailor Moon anime is a second adaptation of the original manga, starting over from scratch.

Starting in July, one of the most well known groups of magical girls will be back to fighting evil by moonlight. After delays, the new Sailor Moon anime celebrating the 20th anniversary of the series has been confirmed to premiere this July.

The new TV series was scheduled to premiere summer 2013 after its announcement a year earlier. The new anime is based on the original manga by Naoko Takeuchi and is not a remake of the first anime. Sailor Moon producer Atsutoshi Umezawa said in a press release [http://corp.toei-anim.co.jp/press/2014/01/post_74.php], "This second anime adaptation of Bishojo Senshi Sailor Moon is not remaking that previous anime, but adapting [Takeuchi's] original manga and starting from scratch again. It is quite a project. The entire staff has been working hard to show everyone an entirely new Bishojo Senshi Sailor Moon, so please look forward to it."

The anime is in production under Toei Animation, the company behind the first Sailor Moon anime as well as One Piece. The idol group Momoiro Clover Z will perform the series' theme song. The anime is a part of the series' 20th anniversary project. The manga was first published in 1992 and has since expanded into anime, live-action TV, and musical adaptations.

The new Sailor Moon anime will stream worldwide in July via Niconico. [http://www.nicovideo.jp/] It will be subtitled in 10 languages.

Will it really be Sailor Moon without the ridiculous theme song? "Fighting evil by moonlight/ Winning love by daylight!"

Seriously though, I hope whoever they get to do the dub doesn't ruin it like the original. (Even if it is hilarious thet the censors managed to turn a lesbian couple into an incestuous lesbian couple.)

Great, now I have one more thing I need to hide from my employer. I guess I'll hide the link deep within my porn folder under the pseudonym "Firemen and their hoses."

6-year old Souplex's first crush was Sailor Jupiter.
I can't wait to see how modern Japanime trends ruin this.
(Remember, the last anime that was a sequel/remake/follow the Mango more closely thing was FMA: Brotherhood, and that was awful.)

...wow. Maybe I'll watch it for old time's sake.

And by old time's sake I mean HOLY SHIT SECOND GRADE
You could say "for the HOLY SHIT I'M OLD time's sake", huh?

But hell, I might watch this too. I did like the first and third seasons of the original anime quite a lot. The rest, mnaaah not so much.

If it's based on the manga, your prays will be answered.

Honestly, I hope they strike the right balance between the old anime and the manga. Yes, the old anime was pretty...unique (especially the English dub. Oh man), but when the manga was being republished I started reading that and I found it disappointing in ways. The other Sailor Sensha are rather useless most of the time, either dying, getting captured, or giving up their power to help Sailor Moon, and the bad guys lieutenants get taken down in one or two panels all the time. None of the supporting cast really gets a chance to shine because it's always about Usagi and Mamoru and their love for one another. When the final enemy appeared, Sailor Galaxia, I was excited because I had heard it was super different from the anime. I can't believe I'm saying this, but I feel the anime handled her better. In the manga, Mercury and Jupiter get stomped almost right away (again, in one single panel), and then Mars and Venus follow shortly after. It just felt like the author was in a rush to get them out of the way so Usagi and the Sailor Stars could have the rest of the series to themselves.
So yeah, while I would like the plotline to follow the manga, I would also like them to expand on the manga. Give the other girls some depth, let them fight, give us those occasional throw-away 'monster of the week' battles and stuff.

It better.

I actually watched the final season not too long ago (the one that never made it to the states), and I can't wait to see how a more manga-accurate version would play out.

Also, Sailor Jupiter is best Sailor Scout. Fact.

The American version has NOTHING on the Swedish one. Allow me to translate:

A little gal with long braids
About fourteen and pretty cute
But if she falls on her little tush
you can be sure that she'll squeal

... and that's just the first verse. The person who wrote obviously just looked through the intro and made it up as he went a long; who needs an actual translation? /sarcasm

OT: Here's hoping that Mamoru aka Tuxedo Kamen isn't 21 in this one but starts out 17 like in the manga. It's still a creepy age difference, but holy paedophilia Batman! did the anime give me the willies because of that.

Not that I'm really a fan of either the manga or the anime. I've just read enough cross-over fanfiction that I know a shit-tonne about Sailor Moon trivia without having watched more than a few episodes scattered across seasons.

I would check out the first episode only just to peak my interest at the new animation style! Seriously I want to see the updated style!

Centered on the manga? Count me in. I loved the manga, but the anime was filler land.

I still love the original anime with english dub(dat tuxedo mask), even if the voices are ass, and can't wait for the new one. Maybe this one will follow the manga closer. *high hopes*

Oh man, its sure has been some time since I last seen it...

It was nice, a heroine and her friends saving peeps and destroying evil doods with things.

It was also nice because I had not yet discovered the horrible secret behind magical girls (thanks madoka magica) that they are all in fact... Liches, souls bonded to gems and whatnot.

And yet we all still watched it.

It will be interesting to see exactly how they handle it this time round.
