Fairy Tail Creator Hiro Mashima Will Start a New Manga Series

Hiro Mashima will work on Fairy Tail and a new series simultaneously.

Fairy Tail creator Hiro Mashima confirmed yesterday that he will begin working on a new series in addition to his work on fantasy series Fairy Tail. Despite worries over Fairy Tail's completion, Mashima assured fans that he has worked on multiple projects before, and this is not the end of Fairy Tail.

Fairy Tail is a long series with 41 volumes published so far and more to come. Mashima said because the series is so long, sometimes he wants to work on something new. Before Fairy Tail, he wrote and illustrated Rave Master, which concluded at 35 volumes. While working on Rave Master he created the prototype for Fairy Tail. Balancing multiple projects is something he finds normal, and he plans to work on Fairy Tail and the new series simultaneously as long as his "stamina holds up."

Mashima already had an idea for a new series, but after watching an anime with a similar concept yesterday, he has given up on his original idea and will start from scratch. The new series would be serialized in a different magazine than Kodansha's Weekly Shonen Magazine, where Fairy Tail is serialized. He is currently continuing the manga while the anime adaptation of Fairy Tail will return in April. Fairy Tail is already longer than Rave Master, and it's unknown how much longer the series will be. Once the new manga series begins, Mashima may start slowly leading the Fairy Tail series to its end, but it's possible the new series could also be a short project Mashima works on.

Let me guess was the anime with the similar concept to his was Kill La Kill?

Either way, I'm wary on his interest on making two mangas at once. Sure I would like to see his upcoming manga (would be cool to see the Fairy Tail and Rave Master cameo in it) but I know how hard and stressful it is to make manga/ comic in general so making two at once is asking strain on himself (his stamina better be strong).

I think I've read somewhere that Hiro Mashima is quite known in manga author circles for being able to draw many pages in a week, but yeah hopefuly he can handle it.

There are two things that we know for certain about his new manga. There will be tits and there will be ass!

I've been meaning to go back and read Rave Master since I only caught the first few episodes of the anime when it was on TV. I guess I'd better get a move on before he starts a new series and I end up with too much to read.

As long as he finished Fairy Tail and keeps the quality up, he can do whatever he wants. I'll probably read that too.

Ugh, I am so hyped for April, can't wait for the anime to continue!

Please haz Erza expy as lead plzkaythx.

Considering he's already had characters named after spring, summer and Autumn in his previous works we can only assume that the new protagonist will be particularly... Cold.

I'm happy for the guy, I don't read Fairy Tale nor have I read Rave Master but I heard the guy wanted to have FT finished by now but Shounen Jump wanted him to continue.

Either way I like the guys art even if I havn't actually read his manga.

Heheh, that is one thing I noticed when I watched a water park special episode a few weeks back, he seems to have a thing for bikinis. I remember Rave Master appearing for a short while on either Fox Kids or Cartoon Network years ago, I guess things got to risque, like DB.

Normally this sort of cheap pandering will turn me off a series, but I don't mind his stuff because at least in Fairy Tail it's mostly done with a light hearted/tongue in cheek/humorous tone.

So, will this be just straight-up porn?

I actually hope so, so he could have some place other than Fairy Tail to work off all that stuff he likes drawing.

But then again, I have lost interest in FT, so I don't really care too much.

Why not? I mean, he's already sleep writing through Fairy Tail, so its not like he's too tied up creatively at the moment.

Since Fairy Tail is one of the worst mangas/animes ever written, I dont expect much from this man.I would go as far as claim he is not good at writing.

Well, I sort of gotten to the point where if I'm reading a Shonen Jump Manga, I don't really expect much except explosions, tongue in cheek humor, and probably partial nudity. Right now in Fairy Tail the number of characters with completely broken powers is starting to get a bit high, with the latest addition being a guy who can perma-freeze people without so much as blinking. It's not "The Culling" sort of bad yet, but it could get there pretty fast.

Yeah, we need another Full Metal Alchemist level work.

And If he can't, you might wanna start learning Kentaro Miura time because that's possibly what might happen if he can't keep pace.

Thats just cruel. You shouldnt wish that upon anyone, thats like valve time for manga. That being said, i've seen worse release schedules and miura's work is really high detail considering so you know where the work is going.

OT: Well, depending what the series will be about this could be good or bad, though nevertheless expect reappearances of characters from previous works, which is the case with FT already which has characters from Rave Master in a slightly altered form, Jellal is a big one there. Also expect fanservice, a lot of humourous fanservice.

Well, Fairy Tail has been crap for a long time now, so this could either be a good shift or another sack of crap. Mashima seems to me like a sugared up kid on cocaine, he seems to have a ton of problems focusing on the plot and developing it. He either pulls the trigger too quick causing no tension to be generated or outright drops threads to go to other threads. A pity, the guy would be amazing under a competent writer.
