The Elder Scroll Online's Cooperative PvE Shown Off in Dev Video

According to the game's developers, The Elder Scrolls Online will feature events too hard to take on "by yourself."

While some lucky players have had access to The Elder Scrolls Online for some time now via its beta, the rest of us have sadly had to remain content with more typical trailers and updates. That said, the game's developers have recently released a nice chunk of video footage showing off some of the game's cooperative battles and features in action.

In the first bit of the video, several of the game's developers go up against an "overland boss monster". The ensuing battle looks pretty much like you would expect a multiplayer Elder Scrolls to look with spells blasting around and melee fighters bashing it around up close and personal-like. Immediately after beating said baddie, the video shifts gears for a moment to show off some of the group-centric fast travel options the game will offer players. For instance, if you're playing and have a friend online you'll be able to automatically teleport to a nearby Wayshrine to make it more convenient to group up and play together.

This will come in handy for some of the game's more challenging encounters which, according to the developers, may be too difficult to "take out by yourself." The example shown in the video was a "Dark Anchor" encounter in which some Daedra worshipers try to summon a Daedric prince to the lands of Tamriel. What ensues is an epic fight between persistent waves of Daedric monsters that, true to the developer's words, looks like it would be a bit much for one person to handle. Watch the video and let us know your impressions, does The Elder Scrolls Online cooperative play look like something you're interested in, or will you be exploring the game's world single player style?

The game actually looks pretty fun to play, especially with a group of friends, but there is no way in hell that I am going to go back to a subscription based MMO after seeing what GW2 can offer for free (aside from buying the game itself). As far as im concerned, if BioWare cant make a successful subscription MMO with Star Wars, Zenimax wont be able to make a successful subscription MMO with The Elder Scrolls, im going to hold out until it inevitably goes free-2-play.

Good luck with that, mate. The Modern MMO is all -about- being single player. Anti-social behavior is through the roof, players want to be able to solo everything, they want ignore lists big enough to fit the entire server on there, and when they -are- forced to interact, it will be with the idea that other players are merely inconvenient and annoying NPC's.

Not that I wish it wasnt so. But that is how I see the medium evolving, and eventually dying. People dont play MMO's to team up, they play them so that someone can oooh and aaaah over their shiny pixels. After over a decade of snobbery, anti-social behavior, trolling, and asshattery, I feel like people are just getting tired of the genre as a whole.

I hope Im wrong, though.

I have to agree with this. GW2 has spoiled me, and I love being able to pop into the game whenever I want without spending an extra cent to do so. I have a feeling this game is going to cling to a subscription for as long as it can. We'll just have to see what happens.

The fights in the video look relatively interesting. Give you something else to do aside from "hit the big thing until it falls over." I do wonder how widespread some of these events are and how difficult they can be. Is it determined by the size of the group or is the difficulty fixed?

Well, shit.

I really hate partnering with random folks in games, especially games with story elements because I like to sit and read/listen to dialogue, and explore whatever I want without having to wait for players to catch up, or having to catch up to my partners. It's the reason I stopped playing Guild Wars 2. Too often I'd find myself on my own and having to scan the map to find my partner, or standing around waiting for my partner to catch up, or being left behind and having to run past stuff I wanted to interact with.

It's the same reason I never played Borderlands 2 with random people. Usually I'd get left behind because I'd be talking to an NPC, or finding hidden chests and collectibles.

Unless my friends finally decide to all get gaming PC's before ESO comes out I think I'll be skipping it, which is a real shame because I enjoyed my time with the beta (oh my god the game looks, sounds and plays great already in my opinion).

Oh look, tanks, healers, DPS'es and a 1,2,3,4,5,6 skillbar, 5 people groups. And there we go, we have another WoW, just like that. :)

That actually looked quite fun, if you have a proper team going and some friends to fight with. Unfortunately the subscriptions have kept me and any potential teammates away. I should really stop watching these and make myself feel sad.
