Starbound Gets a Massive Mass Effect Mod

I hear this impressive Starbound conversion is Commander Shepard's favorite mod on the Citadel.

Despite the rage over the ending, the Mass Effect series has undeniably enthralled gaming culture. Look no further than the modders for proof: plenty of games have received Mass Effect-themed overhauls, and Starbound is the latest addition to that trend. Starbound: Mass Effect Edition is slowly adding just about every aspect of BioWare's space opera to the 2D craft-em-up, and shows no signs of stopping.

Starbound: Mass Effect Edition swaps out the game's normal spaceship for a beautifully retro Normandy SR-1. It also introduces a variety of races, complete with unique animations: player characters can be human, Asari, or Turian, with at least one more race in development, though the developers aren't saying which one it is (please be Elcor, please be Elcor). True to Starbound's gameplay, you can also craft new items like N7 armor, upgradable omni-tools, and recognizable weapons like the M-3 Predator, M-6 Carnifex, M-98 Widow, and the Geth Pulse Rifle. Biotics also make an appearance, though right now the only skills available are Lift and Slow.

The mod is still early in development, with plenty of room to grow. The next update will be adding the series' signature Element Zero (though hopefully it will be more fun to mine this time around) and the woefully underappreciated Mako vehicle. If you think Starbound's gameplay needs a little more reach/flexibility, you can like this one [http://community.playstarbound.com/index.php?resources/starbound-mass-effect-edition.1062/].

Yeah, that is what I was worried about too.
On the other hand similar mods for Minecraft are available (Mass Effect and Pokemon comes to mind)
So who knows, what the result will be
They aren't recreating Mass Effect after all, they are simply adding elements of ME to Starbound

Also- Elcor are a must.
Although, controlling them could be pain in the ass- they aren't humanoids, so using tools/weapons/armor would be problematic.
But at least as NPC characters

Also Citadel in SB would be awesome.

Actually EA has usually been quite supportive of mods, Renegade X being one example that they have not only left alone but actually give their blessing and support. So I'd be inclined to believe there's little to worry about.

They are already modding an early access game, what the hell. If there ever will be early access DLCs, you heard it here first folks.

If you like Terraria and that sorta thing, totally worth the $15. Most of the game is finished, if you don't want to read guides the game could be quite frustrating and long to find the needed supplies to progress. The generated dungeons and villages are cool. The only thing I hate is being reset every-time they updated the game. I put 30 hours into the game before Christmas, it on my list to play after the new patch. Oh and there is one other thing I disliked, unless you record the sector/coordinates/system/planet (yes it requires all four), it is almost impossible to find that planet again. Supposedly there are more than 10,000,000,000 planets possible in game.

Yeah, I have to say even though I don't mind starting over, I'm really looking forward to the character/ship backwards compatibility patch.

* Patch may require one last wipe but I've only heard hearsay on that front.

I think E.A. has had enough Mass Effect related hate mail to last a life time. It reminds me of the FOX exec who said he didn't want to cancel Joss Whedon's Dollhouse because he was sick to death of the Firefly fans being on his case.

This looks like a neat mod. I will probably buy Starbound and when I do I shall download this.

Too late, It exists on the internet, therefore it always will. They can cease and desist anything they want, the fact is no money is being made, it's BASICALLY parody when you get down to it, and no assets from the game were ripped, they were all created fresh and simply are mimicking the source material.

Mods are mods, Hell the most ballsy mod that I ever knew about was the level pack for sonic generations that practically ripped all the fun levels from sonic unleashed and allowed you to play them on PC. THAT'S an iffy mod since it's basically gutted another game and given it to players free of charge. The fact Sega allows no holds barred on anything Sonic related is a constant mystery to the entire gaming industry, but whatever, it seems to work for them.

This is all fan created content, they could call it 'Smash Sheffect mod' and the entire case they have would simply be dropped since they'd have no leg to stand on. Starbound is a 2D pixel based game, there's nothing being ripped from Mass Effect directly, no way in hell.

So no, if EA even thinks about it, they'll be laughed at. Enjoy the mods, they've already got a plethora of different skins for the races and randomized societies, this game looks like it'll be amazing once they finish it. I could definitely do with a few more epic boss encounters. Terraria had that shit down pat, and I'd like it's elder sibling to do more there.

I don't entirely like Terraria just because the mining is SO slow, I really do try to get into it (I have the game) but it's just way too slow in the start for me

It's not the Mako until I can tip it just by running over a discarded soda can.

It'll probably be salarian (the other Councilor race).

As much as people might say they want elcor, hanar, or volus they would be too sluggish to be fun to play. Unless there were high gravity, aquatic, and high pressure environments in which these species would have a great advantage. That would likely be a lot of work on the modder's part though. That's assuming they care about being true to the lore of course, and since there doesn't seem to be any plans to make turians require dextro-protein food that's in question.

I suppose krogan, quarian, geth, batarian, drell, or vorcha would be fairly simple to implement accurately while being fun to play as well, but I still think salarian is the most likely fourth race.

PS - You're not supposed to capitalize the names of Mass Effect races.

I don't know what version of Mass Effect you were playing. In all the ones I know of the Mako is virtually impossible to tip unless you fall into a crevasse where it cannot stand flat.

I really enjoyed driving around planet surfaces with the Mako in ME. I just wish the planet surfaces had gotten a bit more attention during development. There was just nothing interesting to do which made it kind of a chore. But it had so much potential.
And then they axed that whole and introduced the MUCH, MUCH BETTER mining system in ME2...
BioWare must be full of geniuses, but I just can't get over it which IDIOT had that idea and why NOBODY stopped him.

I liked the Mako too. It really proved that space is effing huge... and effing empty. Oh, and some terrible thing happened way over there. But this place is HUGE!

I appreciated the extreme environmental hazards every now and then, because the universe hates you. It was also sort of an experiment on how many different colors the ground and sky can be. Some of moons looked so big, it looked like they were falling out of the sky. I think some of them actually were, but extremely slowly.
