The Walking Dead Escape Zombie Obstacle Course Goes Cross-Country

The Walking Dead Escape tests your zombie survival skills in real-world locations from April to July.

Watching movies or playing games about the zombie apocalypse can be entertaining, but for some fans, it's not enough until it feels like society is collapsing around you. Perhaps that's the drive behind convention games like The Walking Dead Escape, the obstacle course from San Diego Comic Con where participants navigate through a zombie-infested evacuation zone. The event has already been successful enough to branch into New York Comic Con, but now its creators are taking The Walking Dead Escape on the road, with presentations in Texas, Florida, Louisiana, and Georgia from April to May this year.

"The Walking Dead Escape is something that's been an absolute massive hit for us," said The Walking Dead's Robert Kirkman. "It was immensely popular at New York Comic Con and San Diego Comic Con, and now we're going wide with it. It's a fun way to spend the afternoon, especially if you're a big Walking Dead fan. It's an experience unlike anywhere else. You can live the kind of things you see in the comics and show and go to a place and get chased by zombies. Or go to a place and watch your friends get chased by zombies. And nobody gets eaten, which is the best of both worlds!"

The attached San Diego Comic Con 2013 video gives an idea of what to expect, with environments ranging from wide open spaces to zombie-filled corridors. The variety alone should help The Walking Dead Escape stand out from your average zombie walk, and allows for a variety of survivor strategies. "I go very slowly through it," Kirkman admitted. "These are slow zombies. You can run your way through it and do really well, or you can take your time and maneuver your way through it. You can use your muscles and you can use your brain."

If you happen to live near or can travel to the participating cities, and the prospects of avoiding zombies makes your day, The Walking Dead Escape tickets are available for the following dates:

Baton Rouge, LA - April 24th at Baton Rouge River Center Arena

Houston, TX - April 26th at Reliant Stadium

Miami, FL - May 3rd at Sun Life Stadium

Tampa, FL - May 10th at USF Sun Dome

Jacksonville, FL - May 17th at EverBank Field

New Orleans, LA - May 24th at Mercedes-Benz Superdome

Atlanta, GA - May 31st at Philips Arena

San Diego, CA - July 25th and 26th at Petco Park surrounding Comic Con 2014

If only they could visit a location not along a beach. Every one of those is at least 1000 miles from here by virtue of me being in the center of the map.

Some of those obstacles seem REALLY dangerous, like the wooden up and down ramps with the massive holes.
Easily could see many legs being horribly snapped in these things.
Or imagine being a man and stepping in one, your privates would then prevent you from falling all the way down....
Except I wouldn't call you "lucky" in any sense of the word if it did! :p
