Battered NES Cart Back On eBay, $65,000 Buyout Price

The vendor really wants to make sure only serious offers get in.

First it was a curiosity, then it fetched a crazy price, and then the buyer said 'crazy price? Me? You must be thinking of some other loon' and ran away. Now the battered grey NES World Championship cartridge [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/131611-Battered-NES-Nintendo-World-Championship-Cart-Up-On-Ebay-Now] is back on eBay, and this time the vendor's put a $65,000 buyout price on it to scare off the crazies.

"After many failed Second Chance Offer attempts, waiting a minimum of one day per individual," says the vendor, "I decided to relist the cart with an intentionally steep Buy It Now price while accepting best offers to attract only those who are truly interested. Remember, I'm selling my collection so I intend for this cart to change hands." As you may recall, the last time this one went to market the winning bidder offered $99,902 [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/131664-Update-Rare-Nintendo-World-Championship-Cartridge-Sells-for-99K], only to back out once the auction concluded.

i don't use ebay very much, but what are the consequences for backing out of an auction after it is over?

It looks like a piece of garbage. All it has on it is time-limited versions of Mario Bros, Tetris and some other games, right? And he's asking for $65K for it?

Yeah, no. It's not even close to being worth that much, looking like that.

It's trash, throw it away.

You can buy good condition version of that cart and they go for less than 20k. The only reason that auction got so high is that people kept publishing articles about it on sites like this. It was obvious no one was going to pay for it when it went so high. I wonder if the seller now thinks that its really worth that, or if they just think its gotten enough fame that some sucker will buy it. I expect someone offers them a lower bid through email and the listing is just canceled.

As for what happens if you don't pay for something on ebay. You get a non-payment strike. When a seller creates a listing they can set it to not accept bids from buyers who have non-payment strikes. I think 2 strikes within 1 year is the strictest setting.

Depends on the seller. Backing out of a sale like that usually results in negative feedback from the seller, and can even result in a complaint if you were a massive dick about it. Sellers can refuse to allow buyers with low feedback scores from bidding on their items. And if you receive enough complaints, then eBay can straight-up ban you.

Of course, in certain situations, backing out of a sale after it's completed CAN be excused. Just make sure you let the seller know what's going on, apologize, etc.
