Recently, My Sister is Unusual Moves to Later Time Slot

In Recently, My Sister is Unusual a spirit forces a young girl to engage in "lovey-dovey" activities with her stepbrother.

After a debate by the Broadcasting Ethics and Program Improvement Organization (BPO) in Japan, the broadcast schedule of Recently, My Sister is Unusual will move to a later time slot due to viewer concern over heavy sexual content.

Recently, My Sister is Unusual, which began airing this January, was one of the titles discussed for evaluation at a BPO Youth Committee. The committee reported receiving several concerns regarding the anime because it "included many sexual materials including masturbation by a female high school student in the time slot that many teenagers could be viewing programming." The committee viewed the anime and made its evaluation. Shortly after, the anime's official website reported that starting with the fifth episode of Recently, My Sister is Unusual, the show will move from its 10:30 p.m. broadcast. It will air on Tuesdays at 25:30 (Wednesdays at 1:30 a.m.) on Tokyo MX and on Saturdays at 26:00 (Sundays at 2 a.m.) on Sun TV.

The obsession with sisters is a selling point of the series. In the story, Mitsuki Kanzaki gets a stepbrother when her mother remarries. Mitsuki is left alone with her stepbrother Yuuya after her stepfather is transferred overseas for work, and her mother follows him there. Mitsuki is clearly uncomfortable with her new family until one day a spirit named Hiyori who loves Yuuya possesses Mitsuki and begins making sexual advancements toward Yuuya as Mitsuki. The first episode begins with Yuuya walking in on Mitsuki in her room, a history lesson on sisters, and Yuuya's classmate drooling over the idea of having a cute sister. Furthermore, Hiyori places a chastity belt on Mitsuki that fills up when she experiences sexual feelings.

Reactions to the time slot change ranged from "Staff knew this was coming and this is absolutely inappropriate. Should have aired after midnight from the beginning anyway" to "Recently, our TV censorship is unusual."

Hahaha! I'm not surprised. This anime has at least one yuri scene per episode between the sister and angel. This show truly takes fan-service to a whole new level.

This is... pretty unusual programming for TV, even for Japan. Either someone didn't take the show seriously, or didn't realize how SERIOUS the sexual situations were.

This would be kinda like someone trying to release a Blue Lagoon or Flowers In the Attic show on syndicated US TV. Even for Japan the content is a little questionable.

Insert one-liner here.

Ok, is there a particular reason why a time slot shift for an anime geared heavily towards fanservice would get an article here?

Also was the plot synopsis really necessary?

Maybe it's a slow news day. Next we'll be getting Sudoku or something.

Actually a lot of hentai gets aired on TV in Japan, it's just at late night slots like the ones this got moved to. The weird thing about it, if it's weird at all, is how something this explicit wound up in a prime time slot, assuming it's even as explicit as the article implies.

I do find this article funny in light of the discussion over the other article about Hayoa Miyazaki's opinion of the current state of the industry, though. Also kind of weird the number of minor anime articles we've been getting lately. This site has always had the occasional story about Japan and Japanese pop culture, but it used to be only the big stuff. Compared to yesterday, when we got an article about an obscure mangaka's disagreements with her boss.

It was surprising to me that this was put in such a prime slot in the first place. I stopped watching after the first episode- it was so heavily censored to the point of being unwatchable, anyway.

Well considering....

(I wouldn't view this at work, even though it is censored)

is a thing that happens... I'm not surprised at all.
The show IS porn, it just has censors in it. Other than the scene I showed, immediately before, the ghost girl possesses the other and starts masturbating, with only little hearts floating in front of all the lady bits.
I'm not going to post more because I'm not a glutton for mod wrath. I will say though, that if censors were not there, it would be lesbian porn.
Ps. that was all in the first episode.

Yeah, it's a really weird anime... kinda stopped watching after that part. Don't know why I even started now that I think about it. I have a sister, and anime creeps me right the fuck out some times.

No hentai is aired on TV in Japan because hentai is porn it's ecchi stuff that's aired which is a little nudity and is mostly censored anyway (so people bye the DVD's for the uncensored)

As to the timeslot it was an after 10pm slot and now it's a midnight slot and to me it's silly but then in the UK 10pm is the watershed after which anything can be aired including softcore porn.
Actually the line between Ecchi and Hentai is a Western thing to begin with, they both mean the same thing in Japan, ecchi is just a romanization of the way people in Japan pronounce the letter "H," which you might notice is the first letter in "hentai." It's a question of degree, and some stuff is heavy enough that it would be called hentai instead of ecchi if you were talking in a part of the world where there's a difference.

I gotta say I've been watching this anime and I love it. Not just because fan service but because (which is never a major draw for me anyways unless it's done comically in which case it's a pretty major one) but because this anime is freaking hilarious. Never have I had this much trouble deciding whether I should feel bad for a character or laugh at their misfortune. I have a hard time deciding whether to laugh or go "Oh no" with this one so I've found myself doing both at the same time.

I was forced to watch this in my anime club and it is the epitome of everything I hate about anime at this point: pandering to unintelligent masses, bland characters, no tension. the only thing this show was made was to pander to the hormones of teenage shut-in otaku/hikkikomori that can't interact with people

I agree completely. This anime is a train wreck to me. So horrible, but I can't make myself look away.

Funny thing is, they have a great concept for a story under all the fan service. It would make a mean drama if they moved away from the panty shots, yuri scenes, and awkward moments and focused instead on the angel and sister. Maybe delving into the angel's past and her death and the step sisters unwillingness to have a romance with her brother.

Actually, from what i can tell about the thing from both the anime and manga, the underlying theme for the sister is more "get her to open up, and trust guys again". They give her the backstory of having to be strong for her mother, her mother going for the bad boy types, the abusive father....and then her mother finding some guy, quickly marrying him, and deciding to go with him when he has to move with a job. In fact, from the episodes i've seen, notice that every time Mitsuki specifically fills the gauge, and not Hiyori, it is a trust/familial issue that causes it.
