Artist Transforms Classic Video Games Into Romance Novel Covers

Artist Echo Chernik recently re-imagined several beloved video games as trashy romance novels.

Valentine's Day is approaching fast and, as tends to happen, love is in the air. The coming days will, in turn, see the exchanging of countless flowers, chocolates, cards and other more scandalous gifts that we won't name here. That said, in the world of gaming this most sacred of commercial holidays will likely pass unnoticed. It's not that there's no love in games, of course. It's just that overall it'd be safe to say that most games are more interested in doling out virtual bullets than imaginary affection.

That in mind, the folks at Shutterstock, working with illustrator Echo Chernik, recently took it upon themselves to turn some of gaming's most classic franchise into faux romance novels. While some of the choices (Zelda, Super Mario) are on the more obvious side, a few are a bit more unexpected and take some chances. The Street Fighter cover, for instance, reinterprets the Ryu/Ken dynamic as a full-on romance. The Pac-Man one is also pretty interesting, using the imagery of the game in such a way that it fits the theme while still remaining recognizable.

The only one that didn't quite sit as well with me was the Duck Hunt cover, but that's mostly just because I tend not to think of dogs when I picture cheap romance novels. Regardless, the whole gallery is interesting and, in the least, it's neat to see some of the arguably sidelined romantic elements of games put front and center. Let us know what you think and which games you'd like to see given a similar treatment.

It's not just you.

I know Link is supposed to be a bishonen fairy, but add some tits and you've got yourself a genuine post-op on that cover. Though you could argue that actually improves it.

Well, this just made my day. I think the Pac-Man is my personal favorite for sheer insanity.

Also by far the most artistic and imaginative.
Pictures of Zelda and Link making out exist in the thousands if not millions but a re-imagining of Pacman as masked Renaissance lovers?

I never thought of Victorian era dresses and masks for Mr and Ms. Pacman...but now that I've seen it, I really like it.

I just can't get over how wierd Zelda and Link kissing in that picture look.
I mean, just look at the way he puts his lips and the way she does. Is like each of them is trying to kiss with oposite levels of hornyness or something. Am I the only one who sees it like that?

I am pleasantly surprised by the Ryu/Ken one. I never thought of that one, but it seems so obvious now.

There already IS a post-op on that cover: Zelda!

Seriously, Link never looked half as macho as Zelda does here.

The Street Fighter one, I like just because of the fact the image is so progressive, yet it caught me off guard. That being said, it's probably my favorite of them all, with Pac-Man being absolutely brilliant and Duck Hunt, I wouldn't call a love story, but the dog sort of looks cute. 0_0

Not like that, perv!.

I really like these, they make me smile at the creativity of an image of two people in a romantic embrace and it working. Good Job, Internet!

I don't understand why this exists.
"Why" does not matter. What does matter is that it does exist, and it is good.
Agreed. Not sure which one I like most, but the fantastic tag-line of Fierce Moves makes me lean towards that... ^^

To me it looks like oddly mature Zelda is going for a slow tongue kiss, whilst FemBoy Link is going for a completely amateur school boy pucker up kiss.

Makes sense it's probably the first time Link ever kissed a girl.

Got to love how visual porn is very pro on girl on girl, and written porn is very pro men on men, you can shout about equality all you want, but in some thing we are just really not the same.
