Wolfenstein: The New Order Pre-Orders Get DOOM Beta Access

[video=####]

Wolfenstein: The New Order gets a new BOOM BOOM trailer, release dates, and a tempting pre-order bonus.

Bethesda and MachineGames released a new trailer today for Wolfenstein: The New Order and announced the release dates for latest installment in the classic series. Wolfenstein: The New Order will be available in North America on May 29, with the European release following on May 23. The rather bloody new gameplay trailer introduces us to BJ Blazkowicz, protagonist of later Wolfenstein titles and now a resistance fighter in Nazi-controlled 1960s America. Unlike other Wolfenstein titles, The New Order is strictly a single player first person shooter. Bethesda ruled out any multiplayer modes in June last year. Wolfenstein: The New Order will be available for PC, Xbox One, Xbox 360, PlayStation 4, and PlayStation 3.

Along with the release date and trailer, Bethesda and MachineGames announced a tempting pre-order bonus for Wolfenstein: The New Order. All pre-orders of the game will include an invitation to access the DOOM beta, details of which will come at a later time. More info about the pre-order bonus is available from the was restarted in 2011 [http://www.wolfenstein.com/DOOM], after ZeniMax Media acquired id Software.

The Escapist previewed Wolfenstein: The New Order at E3 back in June. Joshua Vanderwall described the game as "an unapologetic blood bath". Wolfenstein: The New Order will have five difficulty settings, with "I Am Death Incarnate" as the hardest. Andreas Ojerfors, Machine Games senior gameplay designer, says, "We want it to be a real, real challenge for people. This is not an easy game."

Well, before i go talking about the article first things first,

Why is there an age verification on a news article? Specially since my DOB is on my profile.

Now that thats out the way, even though i am looking forward to this game, a simple beta access aint enough to convice me to actually pre order it. If the bonus was a free copy of the fully completed game DOOM, now that would convince me.

Chainsawing a German prisoner? What is this, motherfucking Inglorious Basterds?

*Aside* from that particular bullshit, this looks unbelievably awesome and I am going to have to buy/steal a PS4 and a copy as soon as I possibly can! Also: loving the Nazi MAWLR.

I'm getting some worrying tonal inconsistencies here. The music, the robots and the goofy villains all point to a campy, Tarantino-style alternate history romp, but then you've also got this really brutal looking gore and violence and GRRR FREEDOM WARRIORS. It's like the game can't decide whether it wants to be serious or a parody of the kind of game this would be if it was serious.

Because you know, that wasn't Inglorious Bastards at all? An alt-history piece that happened to blend over-the-topness of both the characters and the violence. Also, this is really far from campy.

Anyway, trailer looks great, glad to see the devs aren't just making a bland FPS like Wolfenstein 2008 or hastily adding MP too.

Last time I checked, May 23rd came BEFORE May 29th, so the European release comes first...?

OT: This is on my "ask for as a gift or pick up pre-owned" list - but I'm willing to upgrade if there's enough meat on the campaign...

This looks just stupid, why would you ever introduce serious story elements and character arcs in Wolfenstein? RtCW wasn't the best entry in the series because of its intelligent and insightful narrative. Those cutscenes make it look more like Killzone than anything else.
Oh well, at least the gameplay seems decent, hopefully the narrative won't be nearly as prominent as the trailer makes it look like.

Indeed, you know a project is doomed when the marketing leads with the prospect of access to an entirely different product.

In some respects that trailer looked suitably mental for a Wolfenstein game, but the knife animations looked horrifically close to Battlefield or Far Cry style canned melee animations, what ever happened to swinging around the good old Sledgehammer?

I bet this game doesn't even have a Sledgehammer.

Um... dog food? No? Id doesn't even care anymore.

On a serious note, unless those are the narrowest corridors in the whole game or the Germans manage to be really fun to kill, this trailer isn't inspiring confidence.

Wait...so under Nazi rule we would have had giant battle mechs in the 1960s? Is this game trying to make the Nazis seem like a good alternative, because I'm kind of siding with them. Sure...holocaust and lots of bad stuff...but battlemechs and robot dogs...

Enough with the damn blaring horns already!!

Ze trailers, ze mean nothink however. Ve vill wait...patiently as before. Still, can't be worse than the last one. Also, I think I liked it when BJ didn't talk so much.
