New Dinosaur Species Dubbed The Chicken From Hell

Scientists have discovered a new species of dinosaur that they are calling the Chicken From Hell.

Fossils excavated from a North Dakota ranch in 1999 have been classified as a new species of dinosaur. Officially, the scientific name of this new species is Anzu wyliei . Unofficially, scientists call it the Chicken From Hell.

Weighing in at 500 pounds and measuring 11 feet in length, Anzu is the biggest member of the oviraptorosaur (literally "egg thief lizards") group of dinosaurs found in North America. Its nickname is derived partly from the rock layer in which it was found - the Hell Creek Formation - but the dinosaur's unsettling appearance played no small part in its name.

"It would look like a really absurd, stretched-out chicken," said paleontologist Emma Schachner of the University of Utah, one of the scientists describing the new species.

"It would have been a cross between a chicken and a lizard," said Tyler Lyson, a paleontologist at the Smithsonian's National Museum of Natural History.

"This group of dinosaurs looks really bizarre even by dinosaurian standards," said Hans-Dieter Sues, another Smithsonian paleontologist and a co-author of the paper - "A New Large-Bodied Oviraptorosaurian Theropod Dinosaur From the Latest Cretaceous of Western North America" - published Wednesday in the journal PLOS One [http://www.plosone.org/article/info%3Adoi%2F10.1371%2Fjournal.pone.0092022;jsessionid=C2B08F6231F80B1F6320388C21DFA710].

Carnegie Museum paleontologist and lead author of the study Matthew Lamanna explains that the Anzu would have had a lot of birdlike behaviors. "When people think of a dinosaur," he said, "they think of something like a T. rex or a brontosaurus, and when they think of a bird, they think of something like a sparrow or a chicken. This animal, Anzu, has a mosaic of features of both of those groups, and so it basically provides a really nice link in the evolutionary chain."

Wait..... didn't I have to beat Anzu over and over in WoW to get the blue chicken bird mount in Auchindoun? Is this a coincidence considering it is technically a version of hell to do the same thing over and over again without any real results (I actually still haven't done it, and ran that particular encounter over 300+ times. And since it was in an heroic dungeon, you can't do it more than once a day.

Some poor sod's gonna have to explain something about the eedjit who asked that about him/her being the "missing" link between his/her parents and his/her kids.

Followed by a retorical question about at what point did the 6 year old creationist turn into the 41 year old creationist.

And finally concluding by listing off every fossil we know of in the clade of Paraves (or Eumaniraptora as it's also known).

it is important to note that the oviraptors where named as "egg thiefs" by mistake. the first one (found in mongolia) died with its arm stretched to a pile of eggs. the people who excavated it assumed it was trying to eat the eggs when it died. closer examination with modern technology revealed that the eggs actually belonged to the dinosaur. it was just a mother protecting her eggs from a sandstorm. does this discount the possibility that it could have eaten eggs? we don't know. what we do no is that it was carnivorous(at least partially).

It's far more likely that the mammals were the egg thiefs. After all small rodent like creatures can get in and out really fast and easy.

Although I wouldn't call this the chicken from Hell but from Heaven!!! That's 500 pounds of chicken! It's like eating a Chocobo!

So, either it's the Pilt Down Dinosaur or evidence of the Feathered Serpent in nature. And if the latter, then I imagine we'll be hearing from Lofwyr, Dunkelzahn, and a host of other talking reptiles soon.
