Prometheus 2 Planned For 2016 With "Alien-y" Scope

Ridley Scott is expected to to continue his Alien prequel franchise, with Michael Fassbender returning as multiple David androids.

It was an Alien prequel that barely featured Aliens, played fast and loose with character motivations, and had more plot holes than a Sulaco's worth of chest cavities. Nonetheless, Scott had a pretty clear idea of where he wanted a sequel to go, so when 20th Century Fox announced an untitled Ridley Scott film, Prometheus 2 seemed like a natural candidate. According to "multiple sources" for The Wrap, this is absolutely the case, which means we could expect a Scott directed Prometheus 2 to reach theaters in March 2016.

The original Prometheus ended with Elizabeth and David, against all common sense, choosing to make the journey to the Engineer homeworld. Whatever that entails, sources say Prometheus 2 will have an "Alien-y" tone more in line with the previous franchise than Prometheus. Whether that means the classic Xenomorphs will return isn't clear, although the same sources noted that Prometheus 2 will feature multiple David androids, meaning several Michael Fassbenders could occupy screen at one time.

Fox hasn't yet confirmed whether Scott will direct Prometheus 2, but a writer has been chosen: <a href=http://www.escapistmagazine.com/videos/view/escape-to-the-movies/3557-Green-Lantern>Green Lantern's Michael Green. I'd rather not hold that movie against him (Green Lantern had another three screenwriters, after all) but it's certainly not going to fill fans with a great deal of confidence in the project. We'll have to wait and see, but hopefully it will be a step forward from Prometheus 1... or at least a step to the side to avoid any rolling spaceships.

Ridley Scott's hasn't fared too well lately compared to his glorious Blade Runner and Alien days or even his not quite as glorious but still impressive Gladiator, Blackhawk Down, and Kingdom of Heaven days, but I'm still confident that with the right writer he could really make this work. Not sure what the fuck happened with The Counselor, but Cormac McCarthy's stuff can be pretty unconventional so maybe Scott wasn't used to that sort of writing.

The screenplay for Prometheus sucked, and as for Michael Green, I guess I'll keep my fingers crossed. I hope he does well as he's also involved in Scott's Blade Runner sequel (along with the original's writer, thank God), so I guess this Prometheus 2 thing will be a good way to gauge his skills.

Prometheus 2: Death of the last brain cell.

Prometheus was a moronic and insulting movie. It was full of absolutely retarded moments where I just sat in my seat, jaw wide agape at the bullshit on display. I loved it!

The scientist guy trying to snake charm the white death penis alien. The hilarious plot twists that were absolutely moronic. The goddamn giant feris wheel scene! Oh if the second movie is only half that badly and poorly made then it will be an enjoyable romp.

My favorite is still the guy who brought/controls the mapping drones managing to get himself lost when he tries to leave the ship before everyone else.

OT: Funny thing is that I actually had a dream in which I was on the Engineer ship just last night. Don't know where it came from, I haven't seen (or even thought about) Prometheus in a pretty long time...but sure enough, that's what I dreamed about last night. As a die-hard Aliens/Predator fan, I'm glad that people at least rank this in the "so bad it's fun to watch" category rather than the just "oh my god this movie fucking sucks" category. :3

It wouldn't make much sense to make a direct sequel, the first one was pretty self contained and doesn't really need a follow up, I'm one of the few who liked it (alongside last years the The Counselor, actually this was probably the best movie i saw in 2013), i enjoy the subtlety if Scotts recent movies, motivations aren't overly explained, but they are still very apparent and there's a lot left for the imagination. I could have done without the blatant fan service in the end, but whatever.

The original screenplay for Prometheus is fantastic (and freely available online, so get reading), but for reasons known only to the Scott brothers and Fox they got Damon Lindelof of Lost fame to re-write it seemingly with the specific goal of making as nonsensical as possible.

Seriously, in the original screenplay the crew of the ship are good, broadly competent people who are thrust into a situation miles out of their depth (specifically, Frikking ALIENS!) by a combination of greed, secrecy and pride. It's quite close to the original plot of Alien (which may be why it got altered so drastically) but it makes sense and David is... terrifying.

i still remember Prometheus - hearing "its a prequel" buying a ticket , seeing the film and walking out thinking "what in the chicken fuck was that" now that i hear "franchise" it all makes sense but i don't think i will be seeing any future films.

you know what i would see though Spaceballs 2 because it would hilarious , not hilariously bad.

Considering we haven't had a good Alien movie since 1986 and Ridley Scott teased us for years up to just a few months before release he was working on an Alien prequel, we'd better get more hot xenomorph action. And, I'm fine with Micheal Fassebender clones as long as they don't touch every damn thing on set like a bunch of toddlers hyped up on sugar. It would be neat to know for sure if the original David developed a conscience and knew what he was doing to everyone with the black goo and just didn't care as long as his curiosity was satisfied.

I found an Alien 3 draft that had Hicks on a space station, and while kinda cheesy it was far better that what David Fichner had to work with for Alien 3 when he was brought on mid production. I never watched Lost and never care to ever. But, can someone tell me if a biologist would stick his finger right in the face of a hissing snake or a geologist who releases the flying mapping drones get lost in the cavern he just mapped with 22nd century tech or any other professional do something stupid they have extensive knowledge not to do on Lost? I might have worked on a show about a evil island, but the space truckers from Alien could have pulled of a more successful research mission than the idiot characters this movie got.

Damn it, I'm so sick of the LOST writers and J.J. Abrams fucking everything up. Why on earth does Hollywood suck their dick? Honestly, David Cage looks like a master of subtlety and fiction next to these guys.

Anyway, I'm actually pretty excited about the new film. I mean, When I heard that they slashed Ridley Scotts budget, and that he had replaced Fessbender with an unknown actor, I was skeptical, but after seeing early footage of the film I can see that he's taking it in a good direction. The low budget has clearly forced him to focus his narrative, instead of focusing on snappy visuals. Based on the clip, this looks like the best film Ridley Scott has made in several decades.

you are not alone. i also enjoyed it. i also like to know where they are going with the story. could be really good or really bad. green lantern was dreadful but lets hope that he will not screw this story up and scott can make a good movie out of it.

Because too many people liked Lost and Abrams' films for some stupid reason. Might well lump Joss Whedon in with them because he's now probably considered even better now since Avengers did so well, even though Star Trek and Avengers was guaranteed to make money unless they totally went Uwe Boll on the franchises. They don't even come up with the concepts for the story, just tweaks here and there to "work better on film" and writing the final screenplay then the get all the glory if the movie is good and slip into the shadows undetected to ruin another potential hit if it bombs. It's their name that sells a film much of the time and it sucks for anyone with a decent low budget film unlucky enough to open around the same time as the top Hollywood Chump's movies. Gotta love the corporate circle jerk that keeps the small time guys with good ideas down unless the execs can steal them.

Too bad Ridley saw the need to remove several critical scenes, as they provided much needed depth to several of the key characters. I was hoping he would implement these onto the BluRay release, but he just lazily added it on the disc as extras, claiming he is happy with his current cut (given Fox studios previous actions on the Aline franchise, and other Ridley films, I dunno if I believe him).

Overall I liked the film, but as many has pointed out, there are a number of scenes that just make you shake your head. The most disappointing thing was to see how ridiculous some of the crew members acted, especially considering the original Alien was so toned down and realistic in this regard. Basically he continued the dumbed down action flick tone of Alien: Resurrection, which was a terrible movie.

I do think Alien 3 is massively underrated. The film is beautifully shot, has memorable performances and great tension throughout. Many people hated the ending, but IMO it was perfect, and it tied in neatly with the overall religious themes of the movie. Although upsetting, killing off Hicks and Newt early on only hightended the feeling of hopelessness and dread. The movie holds up much better than Aliens actually, which is surprisingly cheesy. A product of its time I guess.
