Report: Han Solo Will Have a "Gigantic" Role in Episode VII

Deadline reports that Harrison Ford's role is no mere cameo.

First, Carrie Fisher announced that she would be spending a whole "gigantic role" [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/132780-Carrie-Fisher-Will-Spend-Six-Months-Filming-Star-Wars-Episode-VII] in the upcoming film. It's looking very much like episode VII will be more about the "old" cast than the new one, with the focus to perhaps shift in the following two movies.

Deadline claims that Ford "has a gigantic role in the first of the next three films," and rumors speculate that Peter Mayhew's Chewbacca and Billy Dee Williams' Lando Calrissian will also be back. Series mainstays C-3P0 and R2-D2 will also be in it.

As for new cast members, Deadline also reports that Inside Llewyn Davis star Oscar Isaac is in line for a major role, as is Adam Driver and Attack the Block's John Boyega, both of whom have been previously rumored. Furthermore, Maisie Richardson-Sellers, an Oxford-trained actress, has been rumored to have been in casting in recent weeks.

J.J. Abrams has "a big table read tomorrow with the cast in London, and so he's finally going to be forced to fess up shortly," so we won't have to wait too long to confirm these casting reports.

My excitement for this movie seem to be falling by the day as rumors and news about what is happened are released. I can't believe I'm saying this, but I feel as though I may be less existed about this movie then I was for episode 3, and that one I had my expectation as low as they could be after the two before it.

Looking at Maisie Richardsen-Sellers shes definitely an interesting pull for the cast if it turns out to be true.

With the official strike out of the Expanded Universe though, the entire first movie here seems like its going to be designed as an "Old guard handing off to the new guard" kind of deal, Bob will probably have a minor stroke watching it, especially if Harrison Ford is having to cover a major amount of ground.

Main deal is, Expanded Universe now being "unofficial" aside, theres a rather glaring bit of stuff that you can't just write over with a movie and thats Han and Leia's children, Jacen and Jaina.

Primary issue there though is that without Mara Jade, Jacen Solo doesn't become the new great tragedy and betrayal....not without some heavy re-writing.

Theres also a small concern about how they're dealing with Mark Hamill's role....

Hes got a serious case of "Shatner's Syndrome" that I'm not sure an entire movie budget worth of CGI can fix.

So the entire film will be carried by a confused old man who looks bored throughout the entirety film? We're on track for Star Wars VII: Kingdom of the Crystal Skull.

To be fair towards Hamill he is 62. He may not look amazing but he would not be playing a youngin, he would be like Obi Wan in episode 4. An old Jedi who guides new young Jedi in the ways of the force. Harrison Ford is the one I would be concerned about. Chances are he will play the same character he does in every movie now. An old man who is just mean and has no positivity to him at all. I don't want to see him try to show up the new generation and then kiss old Leia in the final scene where he learns to trust the new kids and pass on the torch. I would prefer it he just became a house husband or something and just reminisces about that one time when he made the Kessel Run in under 9 parsecs.

*sighs* You know, it wasn't too long ago I was pretty excited about these movies. Look, I adored the original trilogy but trying to shove the older, worn cast into the spotlight like this seems like a recipe for disappointment. This is a new trilogy, they need to embrace that not try desperately to create one more installment of the old one. In short: I've got a bad feeling about this.

How about watching the movies before jumping to conclusions?
The bar for Star Wars is already low because of the prequels.

Well, in my opinion, he was great in Ender's game.

Captcha: reach higher
That's what you gotta do, Harrison.

I'm going to predict two things about the new trilogy;

1- Lens flares on everything, including each letter of the opening crawl.

2- Luke, Leia, Han and Chewie all die in the first movie, the second will be the new kids going out for revenge, and the third will be them learning revenge is not a good idea and become better people for it.

Oh, and there may or may not be a magic time traveling island powered by Rambaldi.

Only way I can think of Harrison Ford agreeing to this is if Han Solo dies.

I'd even bet on it.

J.J. isn't in moviemaking for making good movies. He's in it to make money.
Exactly. If you do a little research you'll find that a major reason J.J. wants to do Star Wars is for the marketing potential.
I mean look how many rebooted Star Trek crossover commericals we got like this.

That commercial makes me sad for all kinds of different reasons. :(
With Star Wars, cross promotions are nothing new so for J.J. it's ka-ching $$$$$$

Anyway, like others said it can't be any worse then the prequels and I'm willing to bet more then ever now that Han's gonna die.

I'm still amazed that, in a universe as large as Star Wars, where you could set any story hundreds of years before or after the first three movies, we keep going back to the exact same actors and characters.

All of these people got their "happy ending". It's unnecessary.

It's a strange, and unfair, world where Lucasfilms declares the Star Wars prequels canon, but tosses out things like Knights of the Old Republic.

When I read the title I keep imagining a porn producer telling a porn star that she's getting a "gigantic role" next scene.
