No Final Fantasy XV, Kingdom Hearts 3 News at E3, Says Square

Fans of Square Enix's two biggest franchises may be in for a disappointing E3.

It's no question that Final Fantasy and Kingdom Hearts have easily become the biggest Square Enix franchises. So, Fans just kind of naturally expected to hear some more news about Final Fantasy XV and Kindgom Hearts 3 at this year's upcoming E3. Unfortunately, Square has confirmed that this is not the case, as while it is hard at work on both titles, it isn't ready to show anything new to the public.

Square's Shinji Hashimoto told Destructoid [http://www.destructoid.com/square-enix-confirms-no-new-developments-of-ffxv-and-kingdom-hearts-3-at-e3-2014-276062.phtml], "We are are working diligently on KH3, but I think releasing new information will still take some time. We included a small part regarding the story of KH3 In the new trailer KH 2.5 prepared for E3 2014, so please check that out."

As for FFXV Hashimoto said "First I'd like to say that development for FFXV is going well. Internally, we try to ascertain the best timing for revealing new information about FFXV to the fans. So when we were going over our promotion plans, we judged that this year's E3 would not be the best time to exhibit information about FFXV."

FFXV was originally announced back in 2006, under the title Final Fantasy XIII: Versus, and has been under heavy development since. Kingdom Hearts III was only announced at last year's E3, but Square says it has been working on it for quite some time.

Last we heard about these games, Square was squashing rumors [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/131898-Square-Enix-Denies-Kingdom-Hearts-III-Final-Fantasy-XV-Rumors] that they would release in 2014.

Don't get your hopes up, folks!

Well, guess I shouldn't be surprised. Square seems to keep dragging these ones out in terms of showing them off or giving us information (How long did it take for them to give us a fucking answer for why Versus, now 15, was taking so long again?). Hell, we probably won't see anything of Kingdom Hearts 3 till about 2020 at this rate if we're lucky.

It kinda blows my mind that Final Fantasy XV will probably be released a full DECADE after it was first announced (albeit with a different title).

At least with Duke Nukem Forever we got the occasional trailer with gameplay. But I don't think we've seen a single gameplay trailer of this yet. Or many trailers at all, for that matter.

It's like ever couple of years Square pokes it's head out and says "Yeah, Versus XIII is still a thing. No, we're not going to show you anything important" and then crawls back in it's hole.

It makes me wonder if ANYTHING is left from the original pitch of this game. You don't keep a game on the burner for a decade without ditching some content. Hell, I wonder if the story even vaguely resembles what they had originally intended.

At least Kingdom Hearts has been fleshing out the backstory since the last numbered installment (which ALSO came out nearly a decade ago).

When they say they are working hard on it I think they mean the one guy working on both projects cause thats the only reason I can think of for it taking the better part of a decade.

Well I don't want to think about it if both of these are flops and knowing squares recent outings its a reasonable thing to assume then I think we might want to say goodbye to both franchises.

There was some trailer with a guy teleporting around a city-sized mess of building debris. But now that I think about it, that's probably not indicative of the gameplay.

So far, Kingdom Hearts 3 is the only game in particular I would get a next-gen console for. Now it may be coming out even later than the next Legend of Zelda. The PS4 is not really proving its worth, and I doubt that will happen in this E3.

Given how things have gone for Square these past few years it's safe to say they are placing all their bets on these two games. If one or heaven forbid both end up flopping it could very well mean game over for the company. If that is the case I would be trying to hype the shit out of these games if I worked at Square. Even if you don't have a demo or a trailer to show at least give some info on the games' mechanics and/or story. Maybe a screenshot or two would help. But to not show anything at all? All that does is make us gamers worry about the state of the games which would likely turn some people away. That is something Square really doesn't want right now.

I'm not entirely surprised about KH3 not being at E3. From what I remember they weren't planning to announce it last year either which is why there was only a small alpha build trailer shown.

Yeah as much as I'd hoped otherwise, I pretty much knew this was going to be the case.
Still, it is disappointing that we won't get any more info anytime soon, but I guess this means there'll be less chance of being spoiled by a trailer or leak so there is that.

WTF!!! The last few main FFs they've made since 2001 have been utter shit or MMOs or a single player MMO styled semi-FF game. It'd be nice to know something new about FFXV, but it seems Square is either in over their heads with another graphically impressive snooze fest or they're rebuilding the whole game and still didn't have enough time to gather decent gameplay footage to through into a 3 minute trailer. It's like they are hoping a lot of fans irked by XIII and it's sequels still care about the Final Fantasy brand enough to wait patiently with no update on progress on a game that's theoretically been in development for the better part of a decade.

Organization XIII, 13 Bearers of Darkness (as explained in KH3D), you get the picture. It would be incredibly frustrating to wait that long, but at the same time kind of awesome for the developers to show that kind of dedication to their own work. Wouldn't really be worth the wait, though.

From my understanding, they are going to release news about the FF14: A Realm Reborn MMO. Supposedly new classes, level cap increase and the like. Outside of that...nothing that I am aware of.

I heard Nomura claim he released the KHIII teaser too early and doesn't plan to go into full development of the game until FFXV is completed...

And since FFXV will never be completed (lets not kid ourselves, how long has this been in development?) It looks like the Kingdom Hearts series will never get its much anticipated 3rd installment, but don't worry, there will be plenty of handheld spin-offs to tide you over.

Wait, how can something tide me over if the thing I'm waiting for will never be released?

OT: Honestly, I've given up on ever seeing KH3. I want it, I'd even buy a PS4 for it, but I'm convinced that HL3 will be willed into existence by sheer internet nerd-rage before we'll ever see KH3.

OT: While I have the same amount of patience as... uh... Sora in a sleep chamber(?) as well as lacking any true interest in waiting for Final Fantasy XV... for the love of Moogles and Chocobos, Squeenix, release XV in 2016! Considering how Kingdom Hearts III is "in development" right now, it would give it a chance to probably get a 2017 release, at least... (or sooner, I guess, given the development team behind III...)

I'm trying not to constantly remind myself that I'm waiting for a game that won't come out until another game I lack interest in comes out first...

I can understand Kingdom Hearts 3 not making an appearance, given that Nomura even said they announced it too early. In fact, I got more than I hoped for with the little teaser they placed at the end of the 2.5 Remix trailer. That said, it's a fucking joke that we won't see anything of Final Fantasy XV. The game was announced in 2006, and 8 years later we've had 3 trailers, none of which are really representative of how the game is going to play.

Please, for fuck's sake, give us an in-depth looking at the battle system, the characters...ANYTHING!

I'm not to bothered about FF given their performance since 9 but KH3, i'm shaking in anticipation for this man. I don't have a next gen console and I won't until a game I actually want gets released on it, KH3 might be that game. Come on Square, I don't care if the story doesn't make sense, cut out those tedious QTE's and let me dream team up with Iron Man and Elsa!
