This game looks SO SO FUN.

It's a totally new take on shooters in so many ways; DO WANT.

The fact that it's cute as hell doesn't hurt.

the fact that Nintendo had by far the most interesting shooter at E3 REALLY shows how much the industry needs a swift kick in the ass. THIS is the kind of stuff you should be doing with shooters, not just cycling around the same ideas hoping they'll go full-circle and somehow become innovative again.

This is literally innovation, if not invention. I'm happy that there's at least one company that actually showed innovation and didn't just make claims of it in this E3. Looks like Europa Universalis and the likes aren't the only map-painting simulators around.

And the ironic thing is that is coming from a company that gets slammed for supposedly not being innovative or not making new IPs. And they're showing their critics just why a statement like this is a load of crap, as if to say "Hey, there's a REASON we've been around for three decades and counting. Amateurs." It was only a few weeks ago people were turning things into a soap opera, claiming Nintendo was done for and NOW they come to remind people why doing that is a waste of time.

It definitely seems to be one of the most creative games I have seen in a while. It seems like something a lot of the general public would pass over, but I kind of hope for its success anyway.

Just watching the presentation it seems like there would be a pretty interesting meta-game. I don't have a WiiU but I hope that this finds a really dedicated fanbase. It wouldn't be the first time a Nintendo created a competitive game by accident.

It certainly looks like the systems work together to create a lot of gameplay complexity.

I saw a LOT of Splatoon R34 the other day. It's like a whole bunch of artists had a contest over how fast they could break the previous announcement-to-porn speed.
Was there more splatoon rule 34 than palutena rule 34? I suspect that Nintendo planned their announcements in a way that most artists would be busy drawing palutena rule 34 when the splatoon reveal happened.

Europa universalis a map painting simulator? Maybe if you play as France on easy.

Crusader kings 2 is a much better example of a map painting simulator, but in that game the main challenge is keeping your empire together and yourself on the throne.

So... It's basically just the Graffiti mode from the Tony Hawk games with mechanics from de Blob put in a third person shooter.

I think I'll pass.

This is one of those games I knew nothing about pre-E3, and now it's one of the titles I most looking forward to getting my hands on.

A fresh take on the TPS genre, with a colourful aesthetic, just what I need.

So, is this going to be one of those stupid only-one-person-per-machine online multiplayer games, or are families (you know, the audience Nintendo is squarely aiming their products at) actually going to be able to play together? It sounds like every player needs to be playing with a gamepad, and I haven't heard anything about support for multiple pads yet.

To be fair, they have been floundering lately due to lack of innovation and they haven't launched a new first-party IP since freaking Pikmin. (I'm not counting Wii Sports. That's not an IP; it's a tech demo.) The fact that they're able to pop their heads out once a decade and say "Hey look, a new IP" and be declared the most innovative company in the industry says some really sad things about the state of the rest of the industry.

That's not quite true. Here's a list of new Nintendo IPs created in just the last 5 years;
Tokyo Crash Mobs
Harmoknight
Art Academy
Dillon's Rolling Western
Kiki Trick
Ketzal's Corridors
Sakura Samurai
Pushmo/Crashmo
Freakyforms
Fluidity
Nintendo Land
Line Attack Heroes
SiNG Party
The Wonderful 101
Steel Diver
Snowpack Park
Eco Shooter
The Last Story
Pandora's Tower
FlingSmash
Wii Party
Xenoblade
Bonsai Barber
Rock N' Roll Climber
Pop-Up Pursuit
ThruSpace
AquaSpace
You, Me, and the Cubes
Zangeki no Reginleiv

People say they don't make new IPs because they only pay attention to their big stuff.

I guess I'll have to take back what I said about invention/innovation after seeing this:

A quasi-non-violent shooter?
Count me in!!

And if it is programmed lovingly (turn into fucking squids and fucking wallsurf!!!)
This game is the final push why I will buy a Wii-U (Mario Kart and Zelda left the option of a PS4, but now I got a shooter I always wanted !!!)

I'm always confused as too what counts as a "Nintendo game". I always thought a Nintendo game was a game made in house by Nintendo own production team instead of a third party developer. Like for example Wonderful 101 was made by Platinum games and Harmo knight was made by Gamefreak (which is apparently different from The Pokemon Company these days).
