Does anyone else think that this whole business of giving "awards" for games that aren't even out yet (and possibly haven't even been played at all) is dumb as hell?

I pretty much came in here to say as much. It's extremely dumb. It only serves as fuel for fanboys of a particular gaming system.

I agree.

However it's quite amusing to see how after Battlefield, Titanfall and Ghosts cleaned up on trade show awards last year, this year the awards seemed to be getting handed out to the games that are actually interesting rather than the ones with the most expensive trailers and booths.

It's kind of like giving an award to Best Commercial or the Oscar to Best Trailer but it does codify the games most people were excited about this year.

It's still shit. How could anyone in their right mind give Rainbow Six the best PC game award? Not only was The Witcher 3 demoed on an actual PC, Rainbow Six is made by one of the most anti-PC companies and The Witcher 3 by one of the most pro-PC companies.

The Witcher 3 was one of the few games purposely disqualified for not letting journalists play it during the show. All we saw were demos and trailers - the rest of the nominees had to have at least some form of the game playable for the judges.

I was one of the lucky people to play Evolve in a private session with TakeTwo, and believe me: it's amazing.

No Man's Sky had a playable demo? That's news to me: I never saw one, even from E3.
Perhaps I didn't dig hard enough?
