CliffyB Announces New Free-to-Play Shooter Blue Streak

[tweet t=https://twitter.com/therealcliffyb/statuses/486540384399794177]

CliffyB has revealed that his latest game with his new studio Boss Key will be a free-to-play shooter developed in partnership with Nexon.

Cliff "CliffyB" Bleszinski has revealed that his new studio Boss Key is working on a new free-to-play "Sci-Fi PC arena shooter" that, for the moment, is being developed under the code name Blue Streak. The reveal came by way of Bleszinski's Twitter account where he also announced that the new project was being developed in cooperation with the veteran free-to-play developers at Nexon.

"@BossKey will be working with Nexon to publish a Free2Play Sci-Fi PC arena shooter code named #BlueStreak," <a href=https://twitter.com/therealcliffyb/statuses/486540384399794177>said Bleszinski. He followed up this Tweet with another <a href=https://twitter.com/therealcliffyb/statuses/486541012110938112>a few minutes later where he affirmed that the game won't be receiving a "fake CG trailer showing 'gameplay' because that's not how @bosskey does it."

While that one could potentially see that as a sign of integrity, it also means that there's currently no visual content to gauge what sort of style Blue Streak is being crafted in. That in mind, it will be interesting to see, as more details emerge, if Bleszinski will opt to continue with the grim and grit of the Gears of War games or if he's going to opt for a slightly brighter palette in his new game.

I am thoroughly sick of F2P nowadays, Planetside 2, League of Legends, World of Tanks, Team Fortress 2 and War Thunder have already been made, the market is full, go do something else developers.

As a side note, I wonder how long it is before F2P games start collapsing en masse the way Modern Military FPS and subscription MMOs have done.

Well, Quake Live is doing well, I think, for what is the best comparition since its also an arena FPS. The only thing here that bothers me is Nexus.

If he was going to use the same colour palette as Bros of Wall he could have called it 'Brown Streak', but maybe some reviewers will call it that if it turns out to be shit. We can only hope.

See I don't mind PS2 at first but after a while the grind is ever so obvious and painful at times, I want the bread and butter most players have (like C4 because now everyone seems to have that and it boosts confidence), I used to like using the Max's but because they're not always fast runners and tend to be slow that players with C4 are now more than happy to get proper in your face an Allah akbar C4 onto you and die with you rather than running away to fight another day, it really dampens the gameplay for me when an all out mech suit can't really take on a normal light assault who drifts above and drops C4 on your head =/.

Also the guns are expensive to a point where it takes days to get a proper kit out let alone upgrades for all your other gear/vehicles, honestly it's like they really want you to pour money into a game that's not going to be around forever than free choice, I mean one involves a horrible slow grind while the other involves parting with money to avoid the grind, why can't we just not have the grind and still provide good gameplay?, TF2 managed to do that for me without having me throw in any money apart from the first time purchase all those years ago.

In the end I'm with you on disliking F2P, I don't care for them much and these days I haven't really seen one done perfectly that it gathers all of us (TF2 doesn't count because it didn't start off F2P), I just want a proper F2P game where it's only the cosmetics that cost and they don't cost an arm and a leg while the game also doesn't have a stupidly stretched out grind which basically carrot sticks you into throwing money, that's a bad model and should be abolished by now.

Yes, but what about Warsow, Xonotic, Defiance, Loadout, Dust 514, Extraction, Warframe, SMNC, Renaissance Heroes, Blacklight: Retribution, FEAR Online or a whole bunch of other F2P FPS games that feature the word 'Arena' in their description?

The F2P market is full, you think of a genre there's a F2P game with nobody playing it filling that gap (there's a Furry WW2 TPS for chrissakes, it's called Gundog), it's gone beyond the point of being ridiculous.

Even the big ones aren't getting any players to speak of either, Ghost Recon: Phantoms had the full launch hype and advertising campaign for about 5'000 regular players, a lot of these things are topping out at under a hundred people playing them after a couple of months.

I don't doubt that Cliffy B will do better than that, but the market is saturated, the big players are established and I can't see any scenario where he meets TF2 or even Quake Live numbers for any length of time.

The problem with most F2Ps is that you can't play them casually and expect not to pay a fortune at the same time.
How much do you think additional chest high walls is going to run the user?

and just as he announces this, Epic announced Fortnite. Which is oddly similar. That is awkward timing if I ever saw it

I wonder if they are willing to take the joke full circle and actually just make Gears but in an all blue color pallet, even then I bet half the players would claim it's incredibly innovative.

Well UT is safe! Now he can develop whatever he wants and charge people for portable chest-high walls.

Martin Lawrence should sue. Not really sure if *another* F2P shoot'em'up is needed, but I'm a pretty big TF2 fan so safe to say I'm biased.

Dammit ninja'd!

Seriously though, it's 'Cliffy B', the guy is so out of touch with gaming now that he's a success, the popularity and money got to his head and all he can see is what publishers see, ways to squeeze us for every penny. Yeah I won't touch his crap.

So he came out of retirement to make F2P Shovelware. Not really impressed with his return to video games so far.

F2P! I predict Cliffy will follow the path of John Romero. He'll be a game designer for Zynga in no time! Provided Zynga is still alive in no time.

I was kinda getting into it until I read "with Nexon" and the's been the hughest NOPE I've ever faced.

Captcha: Come along. Not with Nexon I won't.
