Hearthstone's Curse of Naxxramas Pricing Revealed

Players will be able to play Curse of Naxxramas without spending a dime.

Hearthstone's Curse of Naxxramas expansion [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/133656-Hearthstone-Reveals-Single-Player-Adventure-Mode] will bring with it a host of new, singleplayer boss encounters, and of course, plenty of new cards. As Hearthstone is a free-to-play title, many were worried that this content would be behind a paygate that free customers can't get to. The good news is, you'll be able to experience the expansion in its entirety without spending a dime, as players can use the game's in-game "free" currency - gold - to unlock all of the additional content.

Not dissimilar to how the original World of Warcraft raid instance was, Naxxramas will open its gates one wing at a time, with a new wing opening each week. The wings of Naxxramas will open in the following order: Arachnid Quarter, Plague Quarter, Military Quarter, Construct Quarter, and Frostwyrm Lair.

As an added bonus, players who begin their adventures in Naxxramas during the launch event will gain free access to the first wing: the Arachnid Quarter. Blizzard stressed that the "launch event" will last a full month, so players should have plenty of time to take advantage of it.

After that, each additional wing will set you back 700 gold, or $6.99 USD. If you've got deep pockets and little patience, you can purchase all five wings in a bundle pack for $24.99.

Keep in mind that purchasing Curse of Naxxramas wings in bundles does not open or grant access to those wings faster than the one-wing-a-week schedule, but it does ensure that you'll be able to dive into the next challenges as soon as they unlock.

Additionally, Blizzard also revealed that just like in WoW, Hearthstone's Naxxramas will have a "heroic mode". Once you've beaten all of the bosses, you can battle them again in the heroic mode difficulty, which rewards victorious players with a new card back for their decks.

Very nice. Now, when do we get to marathon our way to the 2800 gold to purchase the four other wings?
They're still targeting this month for release. Its possible it'll be pushed back a bit, but unless horrible bugs pop up I'm expectin it by middle of next month at the latest.

Lookin forward to this myself. Been kinda burned out on Hearthstone since I ended up on a hot streak and got my rank way higher than I have any right to be. Gettin stuck at rank 10 when you're most definitely a solid rank 18 means for a lot, and I mean a lot, of losing matches before you get back to where you're supposed to be.

In May, I capped out at 14 and thought to myself "you know. I'm just going to stop here. There's no way I'm getting any farther than this, so let me back at 14 for the next few days."

Very excited about this! I'll definitely be purchasing the bundle. Though I'm trying really hard to get to legend while the meta is still defined. Probably won make it though :L

700 gold is reasonable. That's about two weeks of dailies, assuming you save your money. People who are good at arena can make the money even faster.

I've been eyeing HS again after a month away, this is perfect news for that. I'll just focus on my Constructed play for a while and save up the gold. I've got most of the regular cards anyway and fishing for Legendaries isn't a priority for me.

That's... cheaper than I was expecting. I was betting they'd put it at 1000 gold per wing at least. I am pleasantly surprised. Amassing 700 gold is pretty easy.

I feel like the more relevant price point to point out in the article is the $19.99 cost of unlocking the 4 remaining wings after you get the first wing for free from the launch event https://bnetcmsus-a.akamaihd.net/cms/gallery/3W0CWI3PIZQW1402597596281.jpg

I've been saving up a bit, so my current stash plus what I rake up in 2 weeks should at least get me into wing 3 with no waiting. I guess no arena to be sure until it gets there. Really looking forward to this, should be fun and maby the new cards will lower the number of miracle rogues and zoo locks a bit. Although let's not kid ourselfs, people will always be playing zoo.

Finally I reason to jump back in.
They needed some more single player stuff.
I got tired of getting my ass kicked online.

Why? This is an expansion, not some time-limited special event. Unless you're completely lacking in any impulse control and are therefore physically incapable of saving up 700 gold, you can just take a bit longer to unlock the whole thing that some other people will. Not really a big deal.

Huzzah! Technically the wings may clock in at only 600 gold, as rumour mill was that you'd get 100 gold for completing a wing. Which sounds correct, but looking forward to it none the less.

Wait, Naxx had a heroic mode?

It didn't in Vanilla, it didn't in Wrath of the Lich King. Unless people consider doing the extra challenges the heroic mode like they did with Ulduar (for some reason).

Though my question is how we will get to play it. Holding back the wings like they did with Naxx, Sunwell and ICC just sounds like they're trying to limit our playing time on it. At least in WoW it made sense as it allowed the raiders to get the gear to fight the next bosses and then have a fair race (even if the Lich King could and was exploited by accident).

I've really enjoyed Hearthstone. I've got about 25 hours in with no money spent. I haven't even felt the slightest urge to spend any money. 700 gold for the wings sounds really reasonable too.

I'm guessing that Blizz is making plenty of money on this, but I kinda' wonder what people are spending it on. Just doing constant Arena runs? Are people really buying card packs? That just seems kinda' nuts. I guess you might get tired of getting beaten by certain specific decks and finally throw money at the game until you get the cards you need.

I start to get nervous when I play something like this without spending too long. I don't like the idea that my free play is possibly fueling "whales". But, it looks like it only takes about $213 (or maybe $400) to get a full set of cards. After that, it's cosmetic (gold cards) or paying for Arena decks.

I managed to get legendary rank in the game without spending a dime but it took me more than 7 months of playtime and I still have only a single complete deck.
700g is pure and absolute bs. You earn 40 or 60g from daily quests. You get only 10g per 3 wins (nothing for losses). And Arena has gotten to the point where even pro arena streamers have a hard time getting to more than 6 wins(just watched Trump predict 12 wins and get 6, before he would predict 10 wins and get 12).

700g represents at the very least 2-3 weeks of grinding and not buying anything. To anybody trying to get into this game for free at this point: dont try it is too late.

I was expecting 500g so 700g is a little high. With that said, I have a lot of patience when it comes to FTP games. I'm currently sitting on 700g and I haven't played in several days so I know I'll have 3 daily quests waiting for me. I dig this game but am a little burned out on it. I think because I managed to get to rank 13 which is higher than I have any right to be but since I can't get back there I find myself disappointed with losses suffered. Oh well, it's not like it's costing me any money. I'm sure once this expansion launches I'll be all over Hearthstone again.
