A decent, but thoroughly draining, hack and slash experience.

Six out of ten? Oh man, what have you done, Larian studios!!! :(

I don't know why everyone thought Sacred 2 was so good. It was decent but what killed it for me was how ridiculously slow your spells move. You could literally shoot a fireball at someone then run over there and stab them to death before the fireball actually got to them. Or they could just move out of the way.

This and Risen 3 are both Deep Silver games that got no marketing whatsoever and no one knows why they were even made.

I guess that explains why there was so little information about the game available during the pre-order period,
I tried looking into it as while I didn't care for the previous one, I liked the concept of it. Couldn't find anything beyond a cgi trailer and vague details on what the playable characters were.

It says it's developed by Keen Games, whoever that is.

I still haven't gotten around to playing the past Sacred titles... though they sit in my extensive list of "bought but not played" games.

Such a waste of a franchise. Sacred 2 had the best Hack and Slash RPG system ever. It was all the reason I needed to not care about Diablo 3.

The curse of 3 strikes again. It seems that no one can make an action RPG with a number three on it.

Diablo 3, after extensive patching and one expansion after is actually a good game, but with the stupid always online thing, still subpar looting and dumb customization. The levels not being randomized also killed exploration. The action and production values are great, but it is still a huge disappointment.

Dungeon Siege 3 also abandoned the huge world and the unique leveling system. Once again, not a terrible game, but very distant from the originals. The systems (loot, customization) in Dungeon Siege are at least more thought out than in Diablo 3, but still...

Sacred 3 is the apple that falls more distant from the tree here, because it is not even a good game and it is the one with least RPG features: no free customization at all and no exploration at all.

I understand the urge to migrate those games to the console, but making those games dull and unambitious is not the answer.

Also, those games have some serious design mistakes that are amateurish at best. Diablo 3 itemization (linked with its stats) and Sacred 3 art direction (the game is pretty but very confusing, with characters and monsters blending with the environment) are just disheartening.

Dungeon Siege 3 at least is more professional built, although not very inspired and unimpressive at times, I think it is the one that treats the consumers with more respect. Well, if you can discount that whole "alienating the fan base" thing.

What? Larian? Where? It was made by Keen Games and published by Deep Silver! o_o

Or are you just upset because they weren't the one who made the game? Because if they were, by taking into account the recent 'Original Sin' (and games like 'Divine Divinity'), certainly the end result would have been much better.

I was pretty excited about this one until i saw the actual gameplay and the lack of loot. No wonder their so called 'gameplay' trailer only had gigantic letters floating around and a couple of screenshots from the game somewhere in there.

To be honest, the gameplay actually sounds far more interesting than other Diablo-likes to me. Diablo III is really the only isometric hack&slash game that has ever held my interest, though Divine Divinity is a close second, so the gameplay of Sacred 3 being more akin to a brawler than anything else sounds really cool.

It's just too bad that it sounds like everything else is so much more compressed and thinly cut.

That's about what I expected. Right, then. I'll pick it up on a steam sale in a few months.

I almost bought Sacred 3 on impulse, simply due to the fact that Sacred 2 is my all-time favorite ARPG and I also highly enjoyed the first game in the IP. After reading this review and skimming some pretty scathing user comments over at the Steam forums, it looks like I dodged a bullet.

There was almost zero promotional material available for S3, and I can see why now. It looks like an absolutely wretched experience compared to the other titles in the series.

Weird, the most I've heard was that it was a "fine" game, but I've never heard something remotely similar to "it was so good", I personally always felt a bit of interest in the "cyber dog" the previous one had, but not much more.

Speaking as a fan of the original Sacred games, what I get out of the review is that unless the game is being sold at one helluva discount then it ain't worth getting since I'd get a lot more out of just about any other hack and slash game that I could think of on the spot. To think I was actually excited at one point to hear that there was gonna be a Sacred 3...
Jim did some playtime on it on his YouTube channel, which told me all I needed to know about it. I think the review may have actually been a touch kind to it.

And thankfully Deep Silver doesn't wait long before discounting its games.
Which is good, because I can't see myself buying from them at full price, given what I've seen them release.

I can't judge it vs Diablo, but watching gameplay footage left me underwhelmed.

Come to think of it, I got Sacred 2 in a bundle somewhere. I should try that.

I was only underwhelmed because of how... bare everything surrounding the combat seemed.

The combat itself, watching both Jim and TotalBiscuit's videos, looked pretty fun to me. But because there's a complete lack of real surprising progression, it kinda just... makes you have to say "Eh", you know?

Shame.

God,I can't imagine watching TB play this thing, but the problem I have is that the combat already mostly had me saying "eh" and everything else made me wonder why I was still watching.
