Aquaman Film Actually Happening, 2 Writers Hired (RUMOR)

American theaters are about to get a whole lot wetter, said every uncreative studio executive.

It would appear that the Aquaman movie is definitely happening, and that Warner Bros. is fast-tracking it, at least according to The Hollywood Reporter, which reported this afternoon that two screenwriters - Will Beall and Kurt Johnstad - have been hired to write screenplays for the in-development film.

That's sceenplays, plural. THR also reports that Beall and Johnstad have been hired as part of a process called "dual tracking", a recent studio trend by which two separate scripts are written simultaneously. The idea being that once completed, the studio finds what it considers to be the best possible version between them. The process, already employed for WB's upcoming Tarzan revival, is said to allow for faster turnaround on scripts, useful for productions working on a tight schedule, which Aquaman undoubtedly is.

Warner Bros. recently revealed <a href=http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/136682-DC-Blinks-First-Batman-v-Superman-Wont-Compete-with-Captain-America-3>an ambitious release schedule for its line of DC Universe live-action films, but that reveal did not include what these films will end up being. Only the first of these films - March, 2016's Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice - has so far been announced. Every other slot on the release schedule is currently filled by "untitled Movie". This could be because Warner Bros. is, for some inexplicable reason, choosing to save its announcements for some later date. Then again, it could also be because these untitled films aren't yet far enough along in production to know what release dates are realistic.

But something needs to be in production soon: the next release date the studio has staked out after Batman v. Superman is 08/05/16, a mere 5 months later. If it doesn't yet have that film in production, it's going to have to move quickly. We'll just have to keep guessing though. As of this writing, Warner Bros. has declined to comment on these reports. It also has not yet confirmed the existence of an Aquaman film, though it is popularly understood that former Dothraki Jason Momoa has been cast in the role, which will be debuted in a cameo during Batman v. Superman.

Personally, this sounds like a great idea to me. Kind of like how having one person cook pancakes and another person cook soup, then combining both into a single meal always yields delicious results, no doubt the best possible version of the future Aquaman script is forthcoming.

Sounds cool, though just from my first thoughts, the dual script system sounds problematic. I could just imagine an exec going, yeah that love triangle in your script is great throw it in with the other one even though it breaks all the tension caused by the sibling rivalry sub plot.

Oh well they are just scripts in the end. You can just keep writing them until you are ready to throw a hundred million at all the expensive shiny stuff.

I like Aquaman so I hope this works out but I hope they don't make him super dark and violent. Also in the new52 he started off clean shaven and grew a beard over time. That would be a great idea to do in the movies. First movie no beard, grow side burns for Justice League and then full beard in second Aquaman movie.

Wait, I'm confused, the headline says "actually happening", then has "Rumor" in all caps. Don't those two things kinda contradict each other?

Alright, I'll admit I just read the headline...but this is a criticism of said headline:

How can an Aquaman movie "actually be happening" be a rumor? That's like saying "Oh yes, Fox, Sony, and Marvel are all collaborating on an Avengers/X-Men/Spiderman cross-over right now!.......maybe."

So, they're going to write up two scripts, then Frankenstein them together into a movie? I can't see how that could possibly go wrong.

I actually sort of want this to go well. Aquaman is one of those characters that everyone hates on, but honestly, I feel like he could be worth something with a competent writer. But they really need to make people understand that Aquaman can control water which sounds way more impressive than talking to fish.

Not holding my breath, though.

I'm not sure what to think of your dining habits at this moment.

Rumor confirmed to probably be happening. Maybe.

Hopefully they use that revolutionary Call of Doty engine that makes fish all scared and swim away from aquamans mighty soldieryness.

Sorry for any confusion. The "Rumor" is that it's "actually happening", as in "Really Is going to happen". Like "Guess what I just heard? The movie is actually happening." I added the adverb to imply some surprise and incredulity as a weak joke.

I hope this movie blows whatever movie comes out that opening weekend out of the water...

With that said, the news of these two screenplays is "OUTRAGEOUS!" in the most trying-to-be-ironic way possible...

you still don't need the "actually" anyway, it's not like the point is any less made without it and it only serves to be confusing or at worse, another reason for me to once again complain about how willfully inaccurate the headline writing is here in an attempt to ape upworthy's questionable amateur tabloid clickthrough sensationalism

tonal context without markers doesn't work in print

I must add my confusion to the pot. That headline is self-contradicting, no doubt about it. Confirmation of a thing is binary, it's either confirmed or it is not confirmed. Maybe the OP could change "Actually" to "Possibly"?

About an Aquaman movie, I haven't the slightest interest in it. I certainly wouldn't go to any effort or expense to watch it. Possibly.

Given their track record with their previous DC comic films, I am not too thrill about it unless they do away with the drak and gritty feel to it well most of it.
