"As of August 9, 2014, the total number of suspected cases and deaths worldwide is 1,848 and 1,013"

And now the WHO have updated the numbers Total: 1,975 / 1,069 as of 11 August 2014.

So 127 more infected and 56 more dead in 2 day's.

The only tiny bit of good news is there hasn't been any more cases of people being infected in Nigeria as with it's huge population it getting a foothold there would be really bad. Though with much of the north not being under the control of the government I really hope it isn't spreading there and going unreported.

Thanks for the note -- I've made the update regarding the numbers.

Thank you for this, I was hoping to find something like this on the topic. It's nice to have it all broken down like that, cause the headlines are scary (and rightfully so) but not as helpful.

Cheers! The fact is that while it's horrible that so many people are sick and dying, if you don't live in an effected country, you probably have no reason to be afraid.

Well, thanks for the break down. I keep hearing about it, but I didn't get why it's lethal and how it's spread.

That timeline reminds alot of the events in the game PlagueINC...kinda eerily similar if you ask me. Either way though, I think this article belayed any fears I might instead of increasing them so thank you for that.

Cheers! I was hoping someone would make the connection to Plague Inc. I felt the same way as I was writing it.

Thank you for the update; you're a champ. I've updated the figures. Sad about those numbers, though.

Update Total: 2,240 / 1,229 as of 16 August 2014

So 113 more infected and 84 more dead in 3 day's.

Good news, the infection rate has slowed.

Bad news, 3 more infections in Nigeria which if it does keep spreading could be disastrous.

Thank you. I have updated the numbers, as well as added the following entry to the timeline:

August 18, 2014: Up to 17 infected Ebola patients reported missing after a clinic is raided in Liberia.

This is... alarming.

Massive, sad update to the timeline. Among the updated items, there are reports of dogs feeding on infected corpses, causing panic: people are worried about rapid, infected dogs attacking them and spreading the disease.

The DRC outbreak is currently believed to be a separate outbreak unrelated to the original west Africa outbreak.

With 24 infected and 13 deaths.

West Africa update 3,069 infected and 1,552 deaths.

The outbreak continues to accelerate. More than 40% of the total number of cases have occurred within the past 21 days.

Huh didn't know this was here so here's the current update according to the WHO.

13,703 infected and 4,920 dead as of the 27th October.

http://apps.who.int/iris/bitstream/10665/137376/1/roadmapsitrep_29Oct2014_eng.pdf?ua=1

And that's with lots of missing data from Liberia and Sierra Leone
