Roberto Orci Exits the Power Rangers Reboot

Transformers writer too busy with Star Trek 3 to executive produce Saban reboot.

Roberto Orci, the busy co-writer of Transformers: Revenge of The Fallen and the respective reboots of Star Trek and Spider-Man, has seemingly been clearing his schedule to make his bowed out [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/134484-Roberto-Orci-Will-Direct-Star-Trek-III] of scripting Amazing Spider-Man 3, and now it's being reported that he will also exit his roll on the reboot of Power Rangers.

Orci had been scheduled to executive produce [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/136168-Roberto-Orci-to-Produce-Power-Rangers-Reboot] and help devise the new story for the film, which Saban and Lionsgate have targeted for a July 2016 release. Screenwriters Ashley Miller and Zack Stentz, late of X-Men: First Class and Thor, are expected to remain onboard the project; which has no set cast or attached director at this time.

It is unknown whether or not Orci had already begun finalizing the story before departing. Few details have been released about the film (which is so far simply titled Power Rangers with no additional header or subtitle), though it is expected to be similar to the earlier incarnations of the long-running franchise; which followed five (later six) seemingly-ordinary teenagers who were conscripted to repel an alien invasion using space-age weaponry, martial-arts and huge robotic vehicles called "Zords."

It's worst, Power Rangers is STILL AIRING! For F*&*&% Crying out loud, at least Spider-Man and Star Trek where gone for 5 years when they got rebooted.

OT: Thank god, he's being contained. The more distance he had to this movie, the better. Hell, I say we keep him, Michael Bay and any other bad writer, director or producer we can find to the Abrams Trek, Bayformers and Not-so-Spectacular Spider-Man movies. Keep them away from what little remains, they're too far gone anyway. Better for them to suffer under them then to have the virus spread.

Given my limited knowledge of Kamen Rider, I got the impression that it was more about a single hero, as opposed to Super Sentai which is tends to lean towards team dynamics and interactions. It's really not the same except for the similar formula it has on it's episodes.

That and Kamen Rider is a lot more intense. People dying, lots of drama and emotions for everyone!

As someone who has WAY more emotional investment in Star Trek than in Power Rangers,
I am NOT happy. I do not like Abrams-trek but when it dies, it will be the end of Trek for a few years.
Maybe Netflix will pick up a new TV show after all?

For the Rangers Film, that are certainly good news.

Can someone explain to me why Roberto Orci is involved in so many movies at one time when it comes to scripts? There are other writers in the screenwriters guild and good to have a different writer with a different take on things. Or is it something different in US media.

I'd celebrate even more if Paramount would grow a brain and fire this fuckwit from Star Trek completely. Contrary to popular belief, the man doesn't have his finger on the pulse of geek culture... he has it up his ass right alongside his head.

I don't like Orci, one because he's a 9/11 conspiracy nut, and two because he's not all that great at what he does. I'm not saying he's terrible, he's just not great.

I hope they keep the writers from X-Men First Class, since I enjoyed that movie. I think this movie can work if they give it a Pacific Rim style and level of awesomeness.

I think this needs a "be" added.

On the subject though, I saw Alpha's picture and thought some actor was getting out of this, pretty much the only reason why I even read it. But it being a writer getting out of the film... doesn't really change my perception on it, my perception being that I barely remember that there's going to be a Power Rangers movie that is.

One thing that bothers me though is the "REBOOT" thing, can't they just do YET AGAIN a new bunch of teenagers instead of making this the "beginning" again? I mean it's not like there hasn't been "past-present-future" storylines, alternate realities or whatever else.

But then again, I left the "yeah! power rangers!" train a long time ago, but even then, I haven't seen many kids out there with Power Ranger stuff, so this feels more like they're appealing to someone's nostalgia rather than a "OMG POWER RANGERS SO POPULAR, GO MAKE MOVIE NAO" kinda thing.
