Father-Son MechWarrior Costume is Adorably Epic
Ryan Bowen has been planning a father-son MechWarrior costume for years and finally got to do it this Halloween.
For most people Halloween costumes are a somewhat casual affair. You head to Party City, maybe with the kids in tow if you have them, and then you purchase whichever overpriced costume that winds up striking your fancy. For some, however, coming up with a costume is a something that involves a lot of time, effort and, of course, giant robots.
Ryan Bowen, for instance, recently completed work on a father-son MechWarrior costume that is nothing short of awesome. The costume, which was built primarily with PVC, cardboard and zip ties, has apparently been in the work for several years. "When we found out we were having a baby, he got to work," said Bowen's wife in a gallery description <a href=http://imgur.com/gallery/kzTns>on their Imgur page. "Ryan sketched out the rough designs probably two months before Geraint was born. With so much baby stuff coming in the mail, we had plenty of boxes for him to work with, so he just had to buy a few things to make it." Once the frame and shell were completed he fleshed them out with additional detailing sculpted from pieces of cardboard and foam. Bowen also used to hold together the costumes many pieces once had and his son are wearing it.
Speaking with The Escapist said that he was inspired "by that great father-daughter power loader costume from Aliens that went viral" several years ago. "I saw that and thought that a Mech would be perfect for that sort of costume." He selected the Sunder Mech of its "fairly basic" design and because it "has the pilot in the chest instead of the head."

As well done as Bowen's costume is, the finishing touch is easily his 6-month son Geraint who in videos and photos appears to be having nothing short of a blast. Honestly, who can blame him. The idea of riding around in a mech of any sort is something that would make me giddy today.
