Pools Are Finally Back in The Sims 4 Today

Pools and drowning return in The Sims 4 through a game update.

The Sims 4 [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/tag/view/the%20sims%204] feature that people have been dying to dive into is finally going to be included in an update to the game available today.

The update is available for free, just as EA previously said [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/137780-The-Sims-4-Gets-its-Pools-Back-as-Free-DLC], and it will download upon logging into Origin and launching the game.

After downloading the update, The Sims 4 players will be able to build pools, including diagonal pool building, and place pools on any level - that includes rooftops. Sims can go swimming or sit on the edges of the pool. Swimwear is naturally back as well, as is death by drowning - an old favorite. Sims who died may come back as angry ghosts.

A blog post in June on the official The Sims site indicated the team was focusing on other things. [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/135727-The-Sims-4-Wont-Have-Pools-Toddlers]

This update will also fixes performance issues, an issue where elderly female Sims thought they had one leg instead of two, levitating children when blowing out birthday candles, possessed grills, and many other bugs. The full list of fixes in the update are listed here in the patch notes. [http://help.ea.com/en/article/the-sims-4-updates/]

The Sims 4 launched September 2 in North America, September 4 in Europe and Australia, and September 5 in the UK.

I see "Operation: Fix Our Fuck-up" continues on its course...
Gonna have to pull out something big to unscrew this pooch, EA.

They're actually fixing the issues and I have to admit TS4 is now becoming something I'm considering buying...

Pools on any level and Sims can sit on the edges? Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't that an improvement from the pools of previous Sims games?

Brilliant. You can't ask for a better lead sentence than that.

Well, I'm pretty thoroughly convinced that EA Marketing does know what they're doing. If you're a marketing guy and the game is bad, you can't do much to fix it. What you can do is ensure that it stays in the news for forever.

Seriously, Sims 4 is not a game I have heard really anybody say they enjoyed, but I've seen way more articles about it than about most other games, especially games that are more than two weeks old.

Please don't say things like that. I got the mental image of a poodle and a corkscrew and- AGH!! NO!!

OT: Well, it's about time. It only took...what? Months of complaining through the concrete in their ears?

This would be great news if it weren't for the fact that they should have been included at launch.

Maybe in a year, when it's on sale for 50-75% off, has it's 'issues' fixed, and the moders have had some time to work, I'll consider it.

*yawn* Wake me when they fix the "have to load while walking around town". Seriously, what genius decided to drop the single biggest advancement of Sims 3?

Did they ever explain the reason for this?

Apparently it was to make the game more stable and run faster (not sure about that last one).

Honestly, I'm happy to see the return of loading screens. Sure, the frequency is annoying but considering how much of a nightmare Sims 3 was on my old computer because of the open world I will gladly take that particular change with a smile.

Is this the new EA that is definitely not the worst company of the year anymore? Well, keep going, you guys are getting there maybe.

Does Sims 4 actually use less resources than Sims 3?

At least they didn't wait a year and gave people the pools for free. Suppose that counts for something.

Long way to go, EA, but at least you seem to have figured out the general direction of the right track.

Thread's comments are about what I expected.

Anyway, so far so good EA. Step in the right direction. Now, please don't trip along the way.

French site interviewed the producer of the sims 4 yesterday & asked it :

http://www.jeuxvideo.com/news/2014/00075620-les-sims-4-doit-rivaliser-avec-les-sims-3.htm#infos

Translation of the answer :

The world in sims 3 was big, but we realized there were a lot of places that didn't really appear alive. It looked pretty, but it wasn't very cool to explore cause a lot of places looked dead and if you sent a sims there there wasn't a lot to do. We wanted to change that so that's why in TS4 we wanted a world with lots & places where there is always something happening. Now if you're in a park, visiting a neighbour or just crossing the street, there is always a Sim or an object to interact with. There is therefore fun gameplay everywhere you go in the game.

This does sound like nonsensical PR however, lol.
