Marvel Gets Cryptic With Everything Ends

Marvel has teased another, slightly mysterious comic called Everything Ends for "Spring 2015."

Another day has come and with it another <a href=http://www.escapistmagazine.com/tag/view/marvel>Marvel teaser had landed. Rather than just announcing the re-visitation of a classic story or the revival of <a href=http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/138374-Marvel-Announces-New-X-Men-92-Comic>a beloved offshoot however, today's unveil was a lot more vague and perhaps even a tad apocalyptic.

The image in question was in the same comic cover format as past teasers but differed in that it was basically nothing more than a white backdrop with the "Everything Ends" plastered in its center. It's also worth noting that its release window is "Spring 2015," which is several months earlier than the other books announced over the past few weeks. We reached out to Marvel to see if we could procure any further information and they told us to "stay tuned."

The obvious question, of course, is what Everything Ends will be and mean in the context of the greater Marvel universe. How will it tie into the rest of the company's recent comic reveals? Or will it even tie in at all? Personally, I'm interested to see if it will have any parallels to <a href=http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/138210-Marvel-Launching-Ultimate-Universe-The-End-in-2015>the Ultimate Universe: The End event teased late last month. While the dates don't line line up, the main Marvel universe and the Ultimate universe have had some fairly recent crossovers and I don't think it'd be out of the question for the events of Everything Ends to spill into or even trigger what happens in The End. What do you think of this latest teaser and Marvel's overall run of recent reveals? Are we in for an exciting year of comics in 2015 or do you think Marvel's lining up pins for an inevitable gutter ball?

This further supports my theory that after Time Runs Out, Marvel are going to fold every existing multiverse into one, let them duke it out for a bit in Secret Wars, then relaunch everything in a brand new universe, with all remaining characters in one continuity.

Didn't they kill off Johnny Storm a few years ago? If he already came back it'd feel kinda cheap killing him off again.

I don't read comics but I've spent more hours than I'd like to admit on Marvel comic wikis. Don't the Reeds have a couple of super plot-device kids now? Like that have powers that can change the universe? Are they really gonna get rid of them?

Also I can't help but think killing off the First Family would be a real big kick in the teeth to Stan Lee. Can't they wait until after the man has passed on? Y'know, as a show of respect?

I think big Stan doesn't care, I read a Marvel biography, I think his biggest concerns were $$$$

I used to read the comics regularly, but every event was "world changing" then retconed later when it suited. it all became too meaningless. love the films, and i check out the wiki like you

So these were Namor's first words when he formed the current iteration of the Cabal, a team consisting of Thanos, Maximus the Mad, Black Swan, Terrax, Corvus Glaive, and Proxima Midnight. The whole universe reboot theory could easily be linked to the incursions happening every week since Feb of last year. My guess? The Cabal relish in their slaughter so much that time eventually runs out and OOPS! No more E-616, reboot, we are now in 617. So all the old stories take place in a similar fashion, with minor differences. This gives writers the opportunity to dig themselves out of some plotholes of course, DC has to do this about every other year when another Superman clone pops in that simply overpowers everyone cuz he can. That's what happens when you create characters without flaws. But anyway, universal reboots are a fun idea, if used sparingly, which Marvel has yet to truly do without reverting everything back to status quo, see: House of M, Age of Apocalypse, Heroes Reborn. I'm not fond of the idea, but the writers have been dragging this one out for 1 1/2 years so they must have some kind of plan.

I'm not even remotely surprised at this point. Marvel works on a shorter cycle than DC as of the Quesada administration. We've had several years of one continuity, the scriptwriters wrote themselves in, under and off bridges that may or may not have been in the process of exploding or crumbling apart - and then the ineffable order from on high comes down:

It's too complicated, it's not going along with the higher-ups narrative visions or intentions, and we have to go through another pseudo-cataclysmic reboot. Again. Then we'll have to do the same thing in ten years, then in ten more years, then in ten more, etc.

If Marvel Studios works in the same way, then you can be sure they'll wring every bit of lore they can out of Phase 3 flicks and then set the public up for a massive reboot. By that point, RDJ might be too old to keep playing Tony Stark and Chris Evans might be out of shape, among a bajillion other things.

Welcome to the land of comics, where nobody gives a crap about your personal or emotional attachments to a given continuity or set of events.

Best guess: Line-wide reboot, but instead of junking everything like DC did for New 52 it'll be an "ironed-out" new continuity with the various revisitations of old crossover books serving to explain the "new history" of various events and erase stuff they no longer wany to deal with (i.e. the possible return of a married Spider-Man.)

Would NOT be surprised at all for the catalyst/rationale for the whole thing being yanking The Fantastic Four out of the Universe entirely. The company has been looking to do that as a thumb in the eye to Fox for holding onto the movie rights, and it'd make sense in context: The FF "begin" modern Marvel continuity, so if you somehow made them no longer exist it would necessitate reworking the whole universe over again.
