Smite's Xbox One Beta Sign-Ups Open

Smite will be the first mainstream MOBA to head to consoles.

The MOBA genre, dominated by heavy hitters such as Smite [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/tag/view/league%20of%20legends?os=league+of+legends] is aiming to change that, by porting it's third-person MOBA to consoles, starting with the Xbox One.

To sign up for the beta, simply head over to Smite's Xbox page [http://www.hirezstudios.com/smite/xbox] and fill out the form. There's no word on when the beta will start, but it shouldn't be too much longer now.

In other Smite news, Compendium [http://www.hirezstudios.com/smite/smite-preview/smite-blog/2014/07/02/the-$600-000-smite-world-championship-comes-to-atlanta-january-9-11-2015].

When we talked to Hi-Rez back at PAX Australia [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/138380-Smite-PAX-Australia-2014-Developer-Interview], Chief Operating Officer, Todd Harris told us that "Because of the third person viewpoint, it really lends itself much more to consoles than the other popular MOBAS," adding that the game has several newbie-friendly features, such as a system that auto-buys items, and auto-levels skills, in order to appeal to the console audience, who are typically a lot more casual than PC gamers.

The game certainly feels like it would be right at home with a controller in hand, so we'll have to see how this one pans out. For now, Smite is only planned to release on the Xbox One, though more platforms may come in the future.

It'll be good to see Smite get the audience it needs. It's the only third person one out there, so it sort of feels almost made for console from the get-go. I enjoyed Smite on PC myself, but I just can't be stuffed learning another MOBA, especially one so different from LoL.

Really don't like how the article presents it all. Saying "mainstream" covers it I suppose (no idea what MOBA mainstream is outside the big two though)... however than saying its been a genre that is a "PC-only affair" implies that it isn't just "mainstream" and includes everything which isn't so as next gen already has at least a MOBA.

Needs to be cross "buy" and play, which considering all the current information is unlikely.

I would imagine that Smite is probably the only MOBA that would translate somewhat well over to a console. Imagine playing something like LoL on a controller.

I wonder if they're goin to keep their terrible every god ever deal for the consoles.

Note, its a terrible business decision, not a terrible decision overall.

Since it's account based perhaps you can just link your current smite account with XBL?

I played Smite when it was in open beta. I loved it.

Impossible according to higher-ups on Twitch stream when we got to question. To be fair, having everyone buy a separate God Pack is good business sense.

And autobuy sucks, turn it off immediately. *drop the mic*

"The MOBA genre, dominated by heavy hitters such as League of Legends, DOTA 2 and more recently, Heroes of The Storm,"

One minor nitpick, how has the MOBA genre been dominated by Heroes of the Storm? It's below Smite on Twitch, it's still in technical alpha and hasn't accomplished anything yet. Smite has it's World Championship this weekend with a prize pool that is currently the third highest in Esports history (http://www.pcgamer.com/smite-smites-lols-championship-prize-pool/) and is labelled 'An up and comer'.
