Zoolander 2 Officially Confirmed For 2016 Release

Derek and Hansel are so hot right now.

What's the best way to reveal a movie about two male models? At a fashion show, of course. That's exactly what Zoolander stars Ben Stiller and Owen Wilson did in Paris today at Valentino's Fashion Week show, appearing as their Zoolander characters Derek and Hansel to announce the long-awaited Zoolander 2.

The official Paramount Pictures Twitter account [https://twitter.com/ParamountPics?original_referer=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.ign.com%2Farticles%2F2015%2F03%2F10%2Fzoolander-2-officially-confirmed-for-february-2016-release&tw_i=575305449639030786&tw_p=tweetembed] followed up the pair's appearance with an official announcement that Zoolander 2 would be hitting theaters on February 12, 2016. Given Stiller and Owen's stunt, we can assume that both actors will reprise their roles, and there have even been rumors that Will Ferrell will return as Mugatu and, Christine Taylor as Matilda Jeffries.

As for newcomers, Penelope Cruz will supposedly have a role in the new film, but we're not sure what it will be of yet.

Stiller has been optimistic about a Zoolander sequel [http://www.ign.com/articles/2012/07/23/ben-stiller-optimistic-about-zoolander-2] for quite some time now, and some rumors have been circulating that he will start filming in Rome this spring.

The original Zoolander followed male model Derek Zoolander as he and his rival Hansel get wrapped up in a crazy conspiracy to murder the prime minister of Malaysia. We've no idea what the sequel will be about, but we can probably assume that Mugatu will be up to his old tricks again.

sweet, can't wait, the first movie has been quoted so many damn times to me it's about time they came out with a sequel to replace those.

wait so they are JUST starting filming? I swore it had a release date of like next February, hopefully that's true.

Whatever, just wash your hands.
Wasn't the original a pretty big box office bomb? Somehow I doubt the movie public is waiting with baited breath for more of this.

For those who haven't seen the original Zoolander you have to watch this clip.

Even if you think the rest of the movie stinks that scene is still funny.

Just when I think Hollywood can't go any lower damned if they don't find another barrel filled with shit and 80s toys.

I guess we can look forward to the remake of The Adventures of Pluto Nash with Donald Glover and Jennifer Lawrence.

Zoolander was actually a pretty good film, and that's coming from someone who hates those kind of comedies! Thing is, it undeniably ripped off Bret Easton Ellis' Zoolander. Be interesting to see how the second one turns out, without that book to fall back on.

It broke even and it probably comes with conditions that Stiller does a film he doesn't really want to do since this is something he's been pushing for since 2009.

Actually look at it this way at least this will be a cheap bomb.

While I did LOVED the first film (still got it on DVD) but we all know what the results will be since when has the new sequel ever surpass the old comedy? I mean look at Dumb and Dumber 2 and Anchorman 2!

Zoolander, Tropic Thunder and Dodgeball were amazing, just do your thing Stiller and I'm sure it will turn out gravy.

Also, while checking his IMDB I see he's producing Space Jam 2... that's still a thing?

So... This will be yet another movie that's not as good as the first one, yet only entertaining to those who wanted more from the first movie?

But seriously, my expectations will stay lukewarm, at beat, until I see it for myself...

I'd say describing this as "the long-awaited Zoolander 2" might be a bit of an exaggeration.

But I suppose it's just par for the course with Hollywood's new tradition of pumping out sequels that no one (generally speaking) really asked for.
