Quantum Break Release Pushed Back to 2016

Microsoft Studios has delayed the release of Xbox One exclusive from Alan Wake developer.

Quantum Break, currently in development by Remedy Software, will be arriving later than previously anticipated. In a press release today, Microsoft Studios has announced the Xbox One exclusive game will now launch in the spring of 2016.

First revealed alongside the Xbox One console in 2013, the third-person action title is set in the aftermath of a time travel experiment gone awry. The game will incorporate a live-action television series, elements of which will change based on decisions players make.

No specific reason for the delay has been cited, with Microsoft Studios simply pointing to their list of remaining exclusives for 2015 (which includes titles in the Halo, Fable, and Forza franchises), calling it, "the strongest games lineup in Xbox history."

It was supposed to come out at all? I've heard nothing on the game since it was announced at E3 years ago. To be fair I haven't looked.

Does anyone know what the hell this game is supposed to be yet?

Oh, Remedy, eh?

Alan Wake: "The game was announced at the 2005 Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) for "the next generation of consoles and PCs", and was shown to the press behind closed doors in the form of a tech demo.

The game eventually went gold on 7 April 2010, and was released in May."

That's five full years. And I can recall they kept promising it "soon!" from 2006 on... It was delayed a billion times.
So, what'd you expect? Maybe Remedy could rename themselves "Valve 2"?

2014: The year of pushing games back to 2015.
2015: The year of pushing games back to 2016.

This is worse if they had a planned release date (like GTA V for PC and The Witcher 3) but I'm getting really annoyed how there have been so many games announced in E3 one year and the game is coming out after next year's one.

We lost one Dismal Jester, but we gained one in return.

Perhaps there is hope for this site after all.

Incorporate a live action TV series? Red Flag alert....this kind of thing almost never works the way the developers hope it will

So are we ever actually going to get games for our shiny new consoles and PCs? Or does everyone and their dog think it's fine to re-release games we already owned and call it the "definitive edition" or something to that effect.

Remedy seem like good sorts and all, but the concept of this game is kinda unsound. "U like super long cut scenes to break the flow of your game? Well, we made them even longer!" Evidently they're supposed to be different and innovative because "Live Action" is a new exciting thing. Oh well.

Maybe they should use the time to "reconceptualize, maaan!"

Heeyyy, that guy even looks like Alan Wake. Diverse, fountain of characters, they have not! Im mehhing into a singularity of meh just by looking at him.

Wait...live action tv series? Oh no. Have we learned nothing from defiance? This has pissed all over the last embers of interest I may have had for this...err, is it a game? Interactive cutscene? Binary powered puppet show?

Huh...I can't help feeling this game is doomed to mediocrity/irrelevance. I'm hoping it's just b/c they realized the game needed more polish, whether gameplay/engine/story...but this drastic a pushback doesn't usually result in a good product. It's usually more indicative of something that's inherently flawed, but will at least show promise as a result of the extra time.

This may sound cynical, but history proves that such a mindset is warranted.

So, that's a no on Alan Wake 2 for 2017, then. Fine, Remedy, I'll wait....more... *goes back to playing Alan Wake on Nightmare to pass the time*

I really not excited for this game. I would rather care about Alan Wake games than this weird Hollywood the game.

I also surprised that this game was MIA from last E3 as well.

I figure this'll come out on PC in 2018, I look forward to playing it then, I trust Remedy to produce a game with a great story and solid gameplay.

2014 was the year of rushed releases, tepid responses and poor sales.

Although Ubisoft took the crown for that one with Assassins Creed and Child of Light, which they forced an early release on based on a positive response to the GDC prototype. Sure chop a year off the planned dev time and release it without even removing all the script for the multiple endings you cut to make the new release date, nobody will notice...

2015 looks like the year of 'Oh shit people noticed,'
