X-Men: Apocalypse's Angel Revealed, Won't Be "Nice"

According to director Bryan Singer, actor Ben Hardy will play X-Men: Apocalypse's Angel and he won't be "very nice."

Actor Ben Hardy will play Angel in <a href=http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/140208-Jennifer-Lawrence-Leaving-Series-After-X-Men-Apocalypse>X-Men: Apocalypse.

Confirming rumors that Hardy would be playing a key role in the film, director Bryan Singer, in a statement yesterday, announced that the actor would be tackling the role of Angel. If Singer's words are any indicator however, the version of Angel we see in Apocalypse will be a tad less wholesome than the one moviegoers might remember from the character's theatrical debut in X-Men: The Last Stand. "Ben Hardy is Angel - I shall confirm it for you!" said Singer. "But he's not a very nice Angel! And that's all I'll say..."

Alongside his confirmation, Singer and Fox have released a pair of concept art images showing off the new Angel from a rear perspective. Unlike the white-winged version played by <a href=http://www.aceshowbiz.com/images/still/x-men3_26.jpg>actor Ben Foster, Hardy's rendition will have metallic wings with feathers resembling knives. Comic fans, of course, will probably immediately identify this as the character's <a href=http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Warren_Worthington_III#Archangel>Archangel persona, which he adopted after being genetically altered by the titular Apocalypse. If you've only experienced the X-Men through their moves, the key takeaway is that Archangel is kind of bad news.

<a href=http://www.escapistmagazine.com/tag/view/x-men%20apocalypse?os=x-men+apocalypse>X-Men: Apocalypse is currently scheduled to release on May 27th, 2016.

I like what we seen so far, too bad it isn't the full shot of the wings.

With Death out of the way, I wonder what the rest of the Apocalypse will look like?

So they're going to be too "dark and gritty" to just give him white feathered wings?

I myself wondered why, turns out he gets metal wings at one point in the comics. Source [http://marvel.wikia.com/Warren_Worthington_III_%28Earth-616%29]

Looks cool enough, the hair though is a little iffy. Looks a little to punkish for someone who I'm supposed to be... deathly afraid of.

Archangel served as Apocalypse's horseman, Death. He was all blue and purple and had metal wings. Nothing "dark and gritty" about this. The only thing I question is the hair...

Edit: actually i partially take that back. The black and gray suit could be considered more dark and gritty than his blue and purple outfit.

That hair looks super dumb, i'm assuming it's the concept artists idea of what the character could be and not a final picture.

Sometimes his costume in the comics is just full on black, without any other colors. But i'm with you, there's nothing dark and gritty about this, he is like he's supposed to look.

All black huh? I guess I learned something today. It doesn't surprise me though, I actually have a black and silver Archangel action figure that I completely forgot about (maybe what the movie appearance is somewhat based on?). I guess I should have my nerd card revoked.

I can't stop staring at that... unopened wingspan... Can't you spread them wider for the camera, Angel?

Other than that, will the action figure version also come with detachable "metal" wings?

I wonder if Magneto can control Archangel's wings. He has gone from manipulating magnetic fields to controlling metal. Don't recall an instance in the comics of him doing it. Haven't read the comics in a while.

According to this he can even go as far as controlling metallic bonding and organically bond iron in one version. Too many versions to keep track of...

OT: I am not sure how I feel about the design. It looks cool with the black metallic design, but it just seems too clichéd if they go with a black design just because he's evil. It would be more surprising if he had white wings and turned out to be bad. That said, now they have already told us so it wouldn't be a surprise either way... Oh well, I guess I'll be satisfied as long as they make a great movie.

I saw this story in the News sidebar on Facebook this morning, and it claimed that the actor who played Ian Beale in Eastenders had been chosen for the role :) Think I would have preferred that tbh.

Oh dear, I've been restricted from seeing the full wings, and my enjoyment of the look has dropped dramatically.

im somewhat annoyed at not being able to see his full wing span and that they chose to give him a partial mask as opposed to one that covers the hair as well that was predominant in most of the archangel versions.

(BTW silver and black > all other color combinations of the archangel costume)

OK, I get everyone hated X-men: The Last Stand and we are all glad that most of it has been reconned out of existence by Days of Future Past, but they have already established Angel as a character and he would be way too young to be around as anything other than a foetus for the time period covered by this movie.

I swear, when you put the MCU movies and the X-men movies side by side it's like a how-to and how-not-to of movie continuity.
