Skullgirls 2nd Encore To Have Fully Voiced Story On PS4 And Vita

Indie fighter darling to be yet more appealing in new release.

This summer, Lab Zero's Skullgirls will arrive on PlayStation 4 and PS Vita as Skullgirls 2nd Encore, and new features announced today make it the largest version yet.

For the first time, story modes will feature the cast of nearly fifty characters fully voice acted. New challenges will be added with specific battle conditions to meet, such as defeating multiple enemies or limiting the techniques players can use. A survival mode features an endless stream of enemies with health recovery between rounds based upon performance. And to help you get better at all of it, a new trials mode features a "button-by-button instructional system" to train players in basic and advanced combos.

The new features will be exclusive to the PlayStation 4 and PS Vita releases, though Lab Zero will be looking at possibly releasing them as downloadable content for the PC version of Skullgirls Encore at a later date.

In addition to the new content, Skullgirls 2nd Encore will feature the full roster of 14 playable fighters (will also allow PS3 fighting sticks [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/136059-Skullgirls-Encore-Coming-to-PS4-Vita-Includes-DLC-Chars-For-Free] to be used with 2nd Encore on PS4.

An independent 2D fighting game originally released in 2012 for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC, Skullgirls has had a difficult road. Despite the layoff of its entire development team, their subsequent reformation as a new studio, and distribution conflicts with Konami, the game still managed to survive thanks to a dedicated fan base and a highly successful crowdfunding campaign to expand the game with new characters in 2013.

I hope they will add them to the PC version - and if it will be a paid DLC, I'd actually pay for it with no second thought (and I bloody hate paid DLC) because Skullgirls is bloody awesome and devs deserve all the money they can get.

On one hand, I am thrilled to hear that this content is being made, on the other, I am a PC user and am disappointed to hear this. But I will gladly shell out some cash for it if it's being offered, and I hope it will be.

This sounds pretty cool. Now if only I weren't completely rubbish at fighting games.
Skullgirls is a good place to start, apparently the vita and PS4 version will have even extra training tools for newcomers on top of it's already stellar training mode.

Shut up and take my money again!

Other than that, similar to the last time with the base Skullgirls game (pre-Encore), I'm buying PC DLC of this as well as the PS4 version because I'm in "shut up and take my money" mode right now...

when I tried the training, it refused to acknowledge my inputs.

"Quarter circle forward oops I only read doen and forward despite you slid your thumb the whole way" Fuck you fighting games learn to read inputs.

Also I bet it wouldn't be counted by the FGC at large as a real fighter because it teaches people how to play.

I'm of the same exact thoughts. I bought this game the day it came out, but I'm so bad a fighting games I've not played it past the first two weeks of it being released, as much as I enjoyed it.

Eurgh, I'm not sure how I feel about this.

I'm not totally averse to purchasing games multiple times, but that's generally because they come to PC after everything else. I don't see why this content isn't anything that could be patched into the PC version of the game.

But then, they've had pretty stellar support for players considering the relatively small scene for the game, and they even gave the DLC characters away for free if you caught them soon enough. If this were a $5-10 DLC for the PC version, I'd probably spring for it eventually.

Be happy. I have just a PS3 with tons of games yet to finish and no plans for a PS4 or Vita.

And I love the game.

My theory is that Sony paid 2nd Encore extra content with the clause that it would be a new system exclusive to force us to buy them out.

Lab Zero, being an Indie with no money, had few options.

I have the PC version of the game and I will gladly hand over my money for this as DLC. Lab Zero hasn't disappointed me yet so they deserve the income.
