Screen Legend Christopher Lee Dies at 93

The legendary actor passed away Sunday after reportedly suffering respiratory problems.

Sir Christopher Lee, best known for his roles in Lord of the Rings, the Star Wars prequels, and as Dracula in a staggering 10 films, has died in a hospital after suffering respiratory problems, The Telegraph reports [http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/celebritynews/11666316/christopher-lee-dies-live.html].

"The actor died at 8:30am on Sunday at London's Chelsea and Westminster Hospital, sources close to his family said." Lee was in the hospital for three weeks for respiratory problems and heart failure. Lee turned 93 on May 27 in the hospital.

Lee recently signed up for a new film said to be set in the hours leading up to the attack on the Twin Towers in New York, titled The 11th, which was due to begin filming in November.

Born in London, England in 1922, Lee is of noble Italian Ancestry. Prior to beginning his prolific film career, Lee volunteered in the Royal Air Force and then served with the RAF and British intelligence during WWII, helping with the hunt for Nazi war criminals.

Lee's portrayal of the vampire Dracula in the 1958 Hammer Horror production, and the sequels to follow, paved the way for the imposing actor to become one of the most recognizable figures in all of cinema. Despite his age and vast portfolio, Lee mesmerized a newer generation of film enthusiasts in the early 2000's when he appeared in the Blockbuster Lord of the Rings franchise. Shortly after, Lee took on the role of Count Dooku in Star Wars Episodes II and III.

In 2009, Lee was knighted by Prince Charles in recognition of his lifetime contribution to the film and television industries.

Lee is survived by his wife Birgit Kroencke Lee and daughter Christina Erika Lee.

Sleep easy, you wonderful man.

I will repeat what I wrote in the other thread.

An impressive actor and a man with an equally impressive war record. Sir Christopher Lee a life thoroughly lived, SOE, SAS, trained opera singer, actor and heavy metal vocalist. In a normal life you get to do one of those things, all of them is a spectacular life. We shall not see his like again.

Rest ye easy in your sleep Mr Lee. The world of cinema will not yet forget your staggering body of work, neither your countless other accolades.

There are some people who, the more you hear about them, the more awesome they get. And I am now sad because one such man will no longer go on doing awesome things that make me smile :(

While I'm sad that he's no longer with us, 93 is a ripe old age to go, especially after what a full life he's lived. Rest in peace.

Well, you could always try to live your life in a fashion that would make a man as accomplished as Mr. Lee proud.

Sad to see him go, since you rarely get to see people who've lived Life to the fullest quiet as thoroughly as he has.

R.I.P.

Saruman, Count Dooku, Dracula, and many, many other roles. I wonder if the film industry will ever see the likes of him again.

RIP Mr Lee

93? Wow, didn't know he was up there in years. Thought he was 80 something. And I guess in hindsight, at least he finished up the Hobbit movies.

Still, pretty sad he's gone. Dude just had this voice that made sure you listened to him. Rest in peace Christopher Lee.

The world just lost the most awesome guy to hit 90. Stabbing Nazis IRL, biting necks, engaging in magic duels and swinging lightsaber on screen and also making heavy metal albums, he did it all and awesomely so.

Only the combined might of Dracula and Saruman could account for the guy pushing the age that he did.

Time now for him to rule the underworld!

Rest in peace.

When a man has lived a full life, and then spends the next 30 years doing yet more, he is no longer a man, he is a Legend. I am not sad at his passing, he has earned a nice long nap after all these years, I am glad at what he was able to accomplish before he did.
It is rare we get a true living legend in our time. He has been, and will be for years to come, an inspiration, and a testament to what one can achieve with a bit of persistence and spirit.
