YouTube Gaming is Coming This Summer

Despite losing Twitch to Amazon, Google has not yet given up on game streaming. Launching this summer in the US and UK is YouTube Gaming.

"This summer, we'll launch YouTube Gaming, a brand new app and website to keep you connected to the games, players, and culture that matter to you, with videos, live streams, and the biggest community of gamers on the web-all in one place," a blog post [http://youtube-global.blogspot.com/2015/06/a-youtube-built-for-gamers.html] on YouTube reads.

"Keeping up with these games and channels is now super easy, too. Add a game to your collection for quick access whenever you want to check up on the latest videos. Subscribe to a channel, and you'll get a notification as soon as they start a live stream. Uncover new favorites with recommendations based on the games and channels you love. And when you want something specific, you can search with confidence, knowing that typing "call" will show you "Call of Duty" and not "Call Me Maybe."

YouTube Gaming will feature pages for "over 25,000" titles. "We're connecting you to the games, community and culture that matter to you - by gamers, for gamers," according to a tweet [https://twitter.com/YouTubeGaming/status/609421520084058113] on the newly created Twitter account. The launch will "put games front and center, including live gaming."

YouTube Gaming will include live streams that automatically convert to a YouTube video, 60fps streaming, will allow you to subscribe to your favorite accounts, and will even allow users to add certain games to their "collection" in order to keep up with the latest videos and updates. In addition, YouTube is making it so you do not have to schedule a stream in advance.

YouTube Gaming will be coming this summer, and anyone attending E3 [https://www.youtube.com/e3] will get an early look.

While good for competition, I don't see many popular streamers using this, and just youtubers, which hardly changes the environment. Besides, if they're running their same awful policies for it, I don't see it catching on very well.

Now, when will we get Gamerbate? The game streaming site you can wank to. I need this for my drunk streams, I somehow always end up naked, and it'd be nice not having to change locations of the stream just for when that point hits.

Anyway, yes, I agree. Youtube's copyright stuff, ads, and so forth mean that ANY opportunity to get the hell away from it, even temporarily, is an opportunity all content creators will take. Google tried to consume Twitch, and now that they've lost it, they want to compete with it. All the while doing the typical google things, ignoring billions of protests, and not acknowledging WHY people would want an alternative to youtube to begin with.

Unless this service is much more lenient in regards to copyright strikes for using songs and clips I don't see why people wont continue to use Twitch and hitbox instead.

I wonder how they will moderate chat, like twitch does or what. I think we will see some major streamers try it out, and then when it fails spectacularly people will forget it exists, like the Google is trying to forget the Subscription button exists.

As long as they can effectively merge games with porn moreso than some cosplay does, that could very well happen. Gamer X wouldn't just allow full-on nudity and whatever else is legal but allow ALL games to be played, including (and especially) AO and unrated games.

A website such as this practically begs for controversy and possible litigation, however, so it's a risky venture. But as any aspiring entrepreneur might say - "Go Team Venture!"

OT: Maybe It'll be good? Have to be pretty spot on though to make people move from Twitch. If they're largely the same there's no point going through the hassle of migrating.

What this really needs to be successful is to just let people stream whatever content they like as long as it's a game or related to games and just keep the 18+ content behind a curtain that you have to choose to go through. But Youtube won't do that. It's gonna be Google+ all over again. How long until they try and force people to sign up for it? I give them 3 months.

You know Google, there's no law of nature saying you HAVE to try and stick your finger in EVERYTHING. You already have the largest online video platform that has ever existed for a country mile, maybe you can just let Twitch have it's niche?
