Looks like Ted 2 is for me then. Loved the first one minus the awkward ending sequence. I can also solidify myself as "that guy" that loves Ted and hates The Lego Movie. :D

Ahah! Finally someone who shares a similar opinion on Ted! I do not understand how they can stretch the whole teddy-bear-does-adult-stuff joke for a second film. Even the first film was over a decade late with the idea (conkers bad fur had the evil nazi teddy bears). Mcfarlane's typical bombardment of gags are too hit and miss for me, with much emphasis on the "miss" part.
*Sigh* No doubt people will be trying to convince me to go see this with them. And no doubt i'll agree cos i'm so goddamn nice apparently. At least there is no Adam Sandler, so there's always that.

I wonder how many steps up modern Macfarlane is from Sandler.

My biggest problem with this man's work is that he's no longer refreshing but rather rehashing and it shows.

Love the first one. Second one looks like crap from what i've seen In the trailors.

Well, I think I took away far more from the first Ted than Marter did. In fact, I'm generally of the opinion that Macfarlane's humour is far more layered than most people give him credit for, and I found the premise of the first film ('How do you "grow-up" when the avatar of your childhood is a living organism with a mind of its own?') to be very interesting and had a nice payoff.

That said, I never thought it was a film that was in need of a sequel, and the complete absence of Mila Kunis (the MPV of the first movie) from the trailers for Ted 2 was a cause for concern.

As much as I love watching the first Ted movie (just not on cable TV, especially on FX/FXX), it sounds like the "plot" of Ted 2 has some inconsistencies going for it in order of the "plot" to work... I mean, in the first movie, Ted had a job and now, in the sequel, he can't have one? How did he get away with getting a job in the first plce beforehand? Is there some kind of racial-based joke somewhere in the explanation or something? Also, if Ted's wife can't conceive, then why in the promos for this movie have sequences involving getting sperm? Or will that be explained in joke form as well?

Anyway, despite all that, I probably would still enjoy Ted 2 if I watch it in its original presentation... I mean, this movie has Morgan Freeman in it! I was already sold on seeing Ted 2 down the line like with the first movie, but now it's just taunting me to see it just for Morgan Freeman! It's Transcendence and Lucy all over again!

Mila's missing from this one? Uh-oh. Are they trying to make Seyfreid (still don't know how to pronounce that) the new love interest for Johnny?
But I like your premise of the first one, and I think Ted 2's premise is "how do you define what is human and alive for something that by all logic should not be?"

I saw the theatrical version of the first one, and will agree it felt like an episode of Family Guy, stretched to fit a 2-hour run time. I'm told that the Director's Cut was (much) better, but I really don't want to sit through THAT again. Presumably the same will hold true here, so I'll wait for the Director's Cut.

I've noticed that the jokes used in the TV spots were VERY Family Guy. Obviously they can't use the A-material or the more risky jokes on those TV spots but from what I've seen Ted 2 just doesn't look at all worthwhile if you're not into Family Guy...I liked Family Guy back in the day and I swear the jokes used in the current Ted 2 TV spots were used in some of those episodes.

I would say a couple of short, drunken stumbles ahead.
I agree, the rehashing was the first thing that started the ball of annoyance towards family guy. Looking back now, family guy was more of a novelty at the time. But that novelty soon wore off once it became painfully obvious they had run out of good ideas.

Your review of this movie is not glowing. I have already decided before I have even seen it that I like this movie. Therefore, we are now mortal enemies, you and I, and it's totally not a petty judgment on my part because I will pretend it's about how you're an unethical reviewer or a Puritanical guardian of outdated morality or something.

I can't back this up at all, but I heard she was pregnant--that is, visibly, big-bellied pregnant--during filming and opted out.

They've been re-using jokes for quite some time now.

Wouldn't be surprised if Ted got into a fight with a guy in a chicken suit for 10 minutes of this movie after dressing up as a StarWars character, having pretended to be gay in a scene and dramatically pretending to have gotten hurt.

This whole movie looks like a shitty version of a great, great Star Trek episode.

I just saw this today. I enjoyed it. The plot was a bit Eh, but the story is just a side for all the comedy. Which i found funny for the most part. I enjoy some good low brow comedy every now and then

I like you.

I'll miss you when they kick you out.

I find few people in the world quite as grating as the walking filth-pile that is Seth MacFarlane, so I think I'll give this one a miss. I share your surprise that there was enough material in the core concept to make it to two movies, even if they did want to jump on the chance to make a pile of money - "talking, swearing teddy-bear" barely seemed like enough for a ten minute gag film, let alone a single 90 minute film. The synopsis you provided is certainly different from what I would imagine it to have been, but then again MacFarlane has proven to have a complete and total lack of nuance or subtlety when talking about any issue outside of sophomoric humor or cut-away gags, so it doesn't raise any hopes.

Not surprised that the movie is overly-long, devoid of character, and entirely bland, however. That's MacFarlane standard right there, along with being tediously preachy, lazy, pointless, crude, and utterly empty of any soul or effort whatsoever. I look forward to the day that his collective trash-heap ceases to exist in the public and the world can breath a sigh of relief.

"...the lowbrow humor often critiques important subjects, etc. - it's a surprise how little of that is in Ted 2. The whole situation involving Ted could have easily been used for this, but apart from a few instances - such as when one character mentions her ancestors used to be considered "property," too - it's mostly just about Ted as an individual and how he can prove that he should qualify as a person. I suppose that's fine, but it makes Ted 2 feel like a toothless movie missing the bite that could've made it worthwhile..."

This actually makes me want to see it more. I really liked 'Ted', "A million ways to die in the West' was pretty funny, and I like "American Dad" a lot. When Seth McFarlane is on point, he's hilarious, but when he tries to inject social and political commentary into his humor, it turns me off of it. I just don't think he's very good at it, and it just seems bizarre to be put into humor that the creator admits is dumb, low-brow humor.

So, thumbs up to Ted 2 for not trying to turn its plot into some sort of metaphor about gay marriage or racism or whatever, I'll likely check it out this weekend.
