New Tabletop Witcher RPG Announced

Witcher developer CD Projekt Red has teamed up with R.Talsorian Games, makers of the pen and paper role-playing system Cyberpunk 2020, to create a new Witcher tabletop game.

It seems like every day we're hearing about another major piece of Witcher news. In addition to a recent New Game Plus Mode [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/141620-Massive-Patch-for-Witcher-3-Will-Hit-Within-24-Hours], CD Projekt Red has now announced a partnership with R. Talsorian Games to create a new Witcher pen and paper tabletop game.

"The Witcher Role-Playing Game will allow tabletop RPG fans to re-create an array of characters known from the Witcher universe and live out entirely new adventures set within the world of Geralt of Rivia," wrote Community and Website Coordinator Marcin Momo in a forum post [http://forums.cdprojektred.com/threads/54746-CD-PROJEKT-RED-and-R-TALSORIAN-GAMES-Announce-The-Witcher-Role-Playing-Game] today. "Powered by Fuzion, the same ruleset that made Cyberpunk 2020 gain worldwide player acclaim, The Witcher Role-Playing Game will feature a myriad of spells, rituals, and curses; favorite gear and items from the entire Witcher series including a bestiary of devilish monsters players can face during their adventures."

"The system will provide all the necessary tools to create and play out your own adventures and become everything from a battle-hardened monster slayer to a merchant kingpin controlling a vast network of contacts."

The game is slated for a mid-2016 release. More details, including price and availability, will be available at a later time.

First order of business will be sending Roach to the glue factory.

Roll to see how much glue she yields.

You mean how much glue they yield. Given Geralt's naming traditions, every time you whistle, it's probably a different horse.

Ehhhh...I liked those rules for Cyberpunk gun play, but swords n' such? Not feelin' it.

If this eventually leads into a game in the franchise where you get to make your own character I'm super hyped.

Actually, there was a Polish RPG in the Witcher world for like 14 years now. It's called Wiedźmin: Gra Wyobraźni, was published by MAG, and it's a massive cirklejerk of all the guys who dipped their fingers in Polish RPG scene.
It sucks, but still has its fans. Mostly among the people who wrote it.
Ok, I have a massive gripe with the way people here think tabletops are "supposed" to be played, but this is a long and winding argument better left for another day.
I think a new attempt at a pen-and-paper RPG is not only great, but also, seeing as it's going to be geared more towards audiences outside Poland, will probably not suck.
So hooray CDPR!
