Fallout 4 Won't Have Platform Exclusive (Even Timed) DLC

There will be no timed platform exclusivity deals for Fallout 4.

Fans of Fallout 4 [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/tag/view/fallout?os=%20fallout] on their platform of choice, as there are absolutely no exclusive DLC deals.

"We aren't doing a DLC exclusive with anyone," posted Hines on Twitter [https://twitter.com/DCDeacon/status/648114929493405696?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw], responding to a fan query on whether or not the first Fallout 4 DLC would be coming to Xbox One first. That's a pretty definite answer, so fans should certainly be able to rest easy.

Earlier, Bethesda confirmed that the game would indeed have the bog-standard Evolve [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/142330-Fallout-4-to-Have-Regular-Free-Updates-DLC-Season-Pass]? That's how you do a season pass.

The first Fallout 4 DLC will come out early 2016, following the game's November 2015 launch, but aside from that we don't know how frequently, or how much, DLC will be produced for the game.

Pretty sure Mod support will be staggered though, PC first then xbox and PS4 will apparently get mods at some point.

Good to see that not everyone's joining in with those stupid content-splitting practices. It's even more annoying when you read about "This awesome DLC content if you pre-order from Target!" and, as a non-US customer, you're like "Okay... But we don't have Targets here."

As for the season pass, that too is a step forward. But I'm still not going to spend money on non-existing content.

well that was unexpected. Good news for gamers all around. I wonder what they will do with modders.

Good to see they didn't decide to screw Playstation owners this time around and make us wait months to get DLC. You may have just gotten yourselves another season pass buyer.

Earlier, Bethesda confirmed that the game would indeed have the bog-standard $30 DLC Season Pass, although it stressed that purchasing the pass guarantees you will get every single piece of DLC that is ever made for the game. You see that, Evolve? That's how you do a season pass.
Well, depends. How much DLC are they actually planning?

I thought mod support was only going to be staggered for PS4.

Nope, found a quote from Todd Howard that said PC first, then Xbox and then PS4 (Source, search for "PC first" for the quote [http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/gaming/interviews/a654353/fallout-4-interview-todd-howard-talks-mods-in-game-building-and-map-size.html#~ppBhWXtxLNC4ZX]), it is a few months old now so I dunno how much has changed in that time.

I was thinking back to an article only a week or two ago on this site. But I don't know if I'[m remembering correctly.

Interesting, that covers DLC but what about pre-order bonus content from specific stores? You say that shit got put down too and I'll buy the damn season pass on principle alone.

I call bullshit. Knowing Bethesda they'll whine about how hard it is to develop for Sony and the DLC will be pushed back for the PS4.

Learning the lesson after the whole XBox getting Skyrim DLC early basically derailed their DLC plans for the game and them finishing early.

PC players will get boobs, console players... won't.

OT; I hope we get another Mothership Zeta style expansion. That was my favourite of Fallout 3's. I did like New Vegas' Old World Blues and Sierra Madre.

This is good news. Still not buying it before the inevitable GOTY, but I like to read good news in the game-o-sphere.

It's still kinda sad that good news constitutes "Hey, we're not doing this super shitty thing everyone hates" instead of "Hey, we're doing this super awesome thing free of charge", but hey, baby steps.

Has anyone seen any Fallout 4 in-game content limited to a pre-order?

So far I haven't been able to find any. This could be the first AAA game in many years where all of the day 1 content is available regardless of where you buy and what you play on.

Sad day when industry news like this is actually praise-worthy, let alone....news-worthy. Good to hear though, and it's crucial that attention and appreciation is brought to it. Show the stuff that we don't care much for. Pre-order is still just a bad idea, but can't stop people throwing their money at things. I'm still very hyped for Fallout 4, though will probably not be playing it this year.

It did?
They had a lot more DLC planned, as many as Fallout 3 and New Vegas apparently but it being Xbox 360 timed Exclusive and all the problems with the PS3s version meant it was received with a "meh" and sales weren't what they could have been so all that ended up being released was an inferior home creator compared to mods and two pieces of story DLC instead of the plethora of DLC other Bethesda open world games received.
