The Host is an excellent movie.

It's my favorite monster movie ever, and I really enjoyed how they handled the monster and how the characters reacted to the monster. The food stand guy being a personal favorite.

The rest I've seen except for Jug Face and Pontypool since I've never heard of them. I've heard of The Sacrifice, but it really doesn't interest me in the slightest despite hearing good things about it. Might give it a chance at some point, but eh.

Good list though.

The only movies I've seen off that list [so far] are Trollhunter and The Host... The formal I saw in a hotel room after I stopped surfing through their channel selections and the latter was in a [Japanese] classroom in high school that would showcase Asian films every other week...

Other than that, I really like the "Evil" portrayal in Tucker & Dale vs. Evil since it made the comedic elements more funny to me...

I've heard of those movies, but haven't watched them yet. Definitely going to watch the Host and will probably check out
Troll Hunter, Pontypool, and Housebound.

I was glad to see Let the Right One In as an honorable mention: that movie was creepy as hell.

The family really enjoyed Troll Hunter. I've been trying to get them to watch the Host but, they're on a korean drama kick at the moment. Going to definitely check out Housebound as it sounds to be just the right mix for we like! As someone else mentioned, Tucker & Dales vs Evil is also great fun to sit through.

I've heard some things about the Host and was wondering, does it go very deep into the government cover up angle or is the monster center stage? I like monster movies but hate when a lot of screen time is taken up by faceless goons with guns in some damn sub-plot. Half the reason I liked troll hunter was because they kept that stuff to a bare minim.

Have not yet seen Jug Face, but Pontypool is really damn great, I recommend everyone check it out. One of my absolute favorite zombie movies.

It's been awhile since I watched it. I think it focuses more on the family than anything else, but the monster gets its screen time in too. I went into it expecting a low grade horror flick and instead got something less horror oriented and more of a monster based adventure. If you liked Troll Hunter then I'd give it a try. Worse comes to worse, you don't enjoy it and can put something else on.

Great article! I've only seen The Babadook, and was not expecting to be as disturbed as I was towards the end of it. Looking forward to checking out some of your other suggestions.
