Point Break - It Can't Really Be This Bad, Can It?

Point Break is one of the most incompetent, least relevant, and most unnecessary remakes of all time. And the original isn't even that good!

Those were the pictures they released to promote the film? Look at them, they're just so...boring.

Please, Marter...please tell me you didn't actually expect a remake of a Keanu Reeves movie - which was, itself, an utter piece of crap...but at least it had Gary Busey - to be worth seeing. Please tell me the only reason you would subject yourself to this movie is literally because it's your job and you had to subject yourself to it.

I do wish that you would stop sitting on the fence and say what you really think, dont hold back just let rip. You will feel better for it. The original wasn't that great but at least Patrick Swayze had charisma and there were some good Nixon jokes.

I hope that it becomes clear that banking on IP is not the way for film to go soon so we stop getting movies like this and Jem and the Holograms. Did anyone anywhere ever ask for these movies? Even fans of the original?

But before they do, I hope they remake Solarbabies.

I actually like the original. It is one of those movies that do a lot of things wrong, especially its' pacing, but manages to recover because of the sheer sense of nerve the movie has. Say what you want about Reeves, but his dissociated acting style makes him feel like an actual outsider among the surfers and Swayze nails Bodhi as a malevolent free spirit. It isn't a perfect movie, but it doesn't let you down in terms of action and suspense, despite the pacing issues.

And now this one wont be on the list of worst films of 2015 since it came out after the list was made

Some critics don't post their worst lists until the following year, so there's still hope.

Who's idea was it to play this plot straight? This should be a campy mess! Imagine the skater lingo badly used! This could have been like Rocky Horror!
But nope. Its just boring.

Welp... It's only a matter of time before The Fast and the Furious gets an unnecessary remake... Probably be called Need For Speed: Underground or some shit like that... :p

Other than that, I guess this movie doesn't have a "Utah shoots up in the air while yelling in conflict of his own emotions"-type scene... Or a Harp-like character busting Utah's balls... Or even a Pappas-like character that we end up caring about later on in the movie...

Let's do the Base Jump again!
Let's do the Base Jump again!

Oh yeah... Such a missed opportunity...

Did anybody really expect this thing to be more than a steaming pile of mediocrity?

Personally, it took a great deal of effort for me to even come to terms with the fact this existed. I don't know how someone could have the fortitude required to actually be hopeful about its prospects.

I mean...just look at it.

Look. At. It.

The original wasn't fuckin' Shakespeare, but it was at least hokey enough to be entertaining as a campy, dumb action flick.

So they remade a Keanu Reeves movie... and actually managed to make it worse, and even more boring than the original? Wow! Thats... Wow... that takes some extra special levels of Hollywood hackery.

called it. I mean, you don't have to be a film geek to just know that this was going to be a piece of steaming crap. people who liked this should be forced to wear some sort of identification so the rest of us can avoid them at all costs.

It attempts to, but the moment is so poorly done (along the lines of the rest of the movie) that it doesn't make a lick of sense. It really just feels like they said "we need to put that iconic scene in this movie" and just did it.

I cant remember the name of it but it occurs to me that there was a scenario where the studio ordered one these remakes or some such and the director/writer realized no one was looking made some crazy nonsense that ended up having nothing to do with the original and being pretty great. Its killing me I'm gonna figure out what it was.
Death Race?

Ehh... it really depends on the number of movies on that list. There was a lot of shit shoveled this year...

I'm tired of this crap. If they're going to remake something, it should be some kind of movie that was really hyped up and turned out to be a big letdown. The original Point Break was no masterpiece, but it did everything it was trying to do fairly well. Remakes should be reserved for things that sucked but should have been good... Like the Star Wars prequels or something.

If that moment is ever posted on YouTube, I would watch it like I'm watching The Legend of Hercules, metaphorically speaking...

Funniest review I've read from Marter in a long time. I looked at the previews and joked with my brother about how the color's toned down, all the guys have scruffy beards and they're all frowning, which means they're [growls] SERIOUS. So I knew this was going to suck, hard.

The original Point Break was pretty shit (and that's coming from a Keanu Reeves fan). This just looked like a remake that nobody asked for nor wanted.
