Fans Launch Petition to Get Danny DeVito to Voice Detective Pikachu

Disclosure: I signed it.

As of the time of this writing, more than 11,500 fans, including yours truly, have signed a Change.org petition [https://www.change.org/p/nintendo-nintendo-of-america-get-danny-devito-to-voice-the-english-version-of-detective-pikachu#petition-letter] in order to get Nintendo to hire Danny DeVito as the voice of Detective Pikachu.

Very plainly, the petition reads "There are a number of us that feel as though Danny DeVito would be a prime fit for the voice acting role of the Detective Pikachu. We want to make this happen."

The top comment on the petition reads:

"His voice: iconic.
His range as an actor: wide.
His wit: sharp.
His career: successful.
His comedic timing: perfect.
His celebrity status: beloved.

Now is the time to make Detective Pikachu truly electric.

I choose you, DeVitochu!"

Great Detective Pikachu was announced earlier this week for the 3DS [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/166114-Detective-Pikachu-Officially-Announced] with a live action CGI trailer, and is geared for release in Japan on February 3. There's not yet any word on a Western release.

Now THIS is something I can get behind. While there are many great choices for voice actor, Danny DeVito is most definitely one of them.

DeVitochu would be awesome. But I'd forever be hearing Frank Reynolds just like I can never hear Luke Skywalker lines and not think "Thats Joker..."

Oh yes... a petition... clearly this will spur Nintendo right away to hire Danny DeVito right on the spot... Petitions, rarely, ever work. Secondly if they hadn't already gotten a voice actor and are currently recording the English version, it might take months to get that ready for a Western release. Not to mention, if they want to go through the extra effort, of getting the lip sync correct.

I know know what tier DeVito is, but he might be a bit more expensive then Nintendo would be willing to spend just for a voice.Besides no one seems to understand how voice acting works, you don't just pick an actor unless they are part of your established team, they have to be auditioned and hired.

Bottom line, is it possible: Maybe? Likely: no. Probably just as effective as the petition to declare Bowie not dead.

If they can't afford Devito, I'd settle for Robert Costanzo.

EDIT: He voiced Detective Harvey Bullock in the Batman Animated Series

Or Gilbert Gottfried <_<
Shit. I rushed to the comment section just to say Gilbert Gottfried, thinking "Heh heh, I bet nobody thought of this before".

Well, It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia somehow has the money to afford DeVito for all those seasons, so I don't think "money" is going to be the issue in this situation...

OT: Is this because of Elite3's Pokemon 'Bridged series?

Other than that, you can't go wrong with Dan Green... :p

I'd rather have Tara Strong.

"Dear Trainer Ash,
Today I learned that if you attach a male human's testicles to my tail while I use Thunder, they are far more willing to give up information that is required for my investigations.

-Detective Pikachu

PS: I know about the Thunder Stone, assholes."

My friend and I were -literally- just talking about this.

That said, let's just worry about getting the game in english at all.

No no no, all wrong. We need to get David Duchovny to voice a Gallade and Jillian Anderson to voice a Gardevoir and they investigate psychic pokemon and paranormal activity.

Failing that Gilbert Godfried. As everyone.

Add one voice to the Gottfried camp. I need my Detective 'Chu to be needlessly shrill and annoying, seeing as that would be the perfect cover for feats of investigative brilliance.

Or... If they want to play it in a more conventional registry judging by the deerstalker cap, I'd mention anyone between Barry Ingham (Basil of Baker Street, anyone?), Benedict Cumberbatch (because duh) or Stephen Fry. His work on the audiobook for the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy is awesome, and he'd pack the right kind of dry wit for a suspiciously articulate electric rodent exposed to the rigors of inner-city crime.

Failing that, if the "I dunno, LOL" camp must win, then I'd nominate Mickey Rourke. HARD-BOILED PIKACHU FOR LIFE.

Is there something I'm missing? Why is Danny Devito a "perfect" fit for Pikachu? It's a yellow rodent who says one fucking word. Did he actually develop linguistic skills at some point in the plethora of Pokemon stuff out there? I just...I don't get it. Why is this even a thing, other than to just say "lulz, the angry short dude from Sunny in Philly is playing a cute, lovable creature with a detective hat! How contrary and hilarious!"

...cause I just don't see it.

I would rather have had Sam Kinison or George Carlin as the voice of Pikachu. However, since they're no longer among us, I second the notion for Gilbert Gottfried.

Failing him, either Billy Connolly or Pablo Francisco would suffice.
