Hollywood has barely scratched the surface of potential video game movies. Here are just a handful we'd like to see.

Movie adaptations are pointless to begin with. why would i watch an elder scrolls movie when i can play the game. the two mediums reach out to us in completely different ways and the idea that they can be combined for some best of both worlds scenario is wishful thinking from the 80s that simply refuses to die. there is nothing to be gained for games in movie adaptaions, especcially considering how many franchises like uncharted and assasins creed already have movie. like narrative delivery. and as we see time and again some of our best game narratives are delivered in a way that steps out from the shadow of cinema in order to engage the player directly

How about none. Hollywood already has a shortage of ideas as it is, no need to give them even more excuses to not create something original. Also, as someone who has had their one of their favorite video games - Max Payne - completely ruined by Hollywood's touch, I wouldn't want any other of my own or anyone else's favorite games ruined as well.

Amen to that. At the very least in your case, there was only one of those crappy movies and Max was still the protagonist (screwed up as he was). I didn't even get that with those God-awful Resident Evil movies. And they're still making more. Unless the creators of the games are allowed control over the production and can have their input on the script, directing, and casting, then Hollywood should just go away and stay away.

Only about three entries I agree with.
Get Ron Whitaker back, he was the best at these.

I'd be okay if they used settings though. I'd especially love to see a movie set in the Mass Effect universe.

But they do have to be their own stories with original characters and whatnot.

I think the only reason for me to want an Elder Scrolls movie would be to see if M'aiq The Liar makes more than one cameo appearance in the background. Then for the stinger they could have M'aiq say something that comes close to breaking The 4th Wall.

Outside of that what could The Elder Scrolls be about?

The Elder Scrolls & The Non-Daedric Gods are usually Magical McGuffins.

It couldn't go back to before Tamriel had humans or Elves because most humans are obsessed with human like faces.

Clarifying whether or not Tiber Septim became a god would just get people mad if they chose the wrong side.

Sheogorath's role or lack thereof could also cause a debate.

They can't tell how The Orcs were finally accepted (Not Counting ESO) because it would come off as a Warcraft clone.

Anything about slavery (Imperials enslaved by Heartland High Elves), genocide (Nords being killed by Snow Elves), or mixed races (Bretons having both Human & Elven Ancestors) would come off as offensive for people too attached to reality.

There are also bound to be people who see Khajiits as offensive stereotypes of whoever is being associated with criminal activities like drugs & stealing.

Part of me expects Native Americans to be offended by Argonians. Making claims that Bethesda sees Native Americans as less than human.

The debate of whether it should be PG-13 or R rated.

And there is no way The Lusty Argonian Maid would ever be made into a movie because that's bordering on Porn.

By the time they'd go through all of that The Elder Scrolls movie would have to be about how the Redguards' lost their home continent, Yokuda. By then the only offensive thing Hollywood could do is not give it any Oscars if it deserves any.

I noticed he was gone, was there any indication as to why?

As per Starcraft, I feel that might work better as a tv series because it'll allow it to better explore the very complex characters.

First off, the only way I would wan't to see any of these franchises adapted for film is if someone from the game company (who is still passionate about said franchise) gets to veto any and all of Hollywood's bullshit they pull with adaptations from any other media. Most video game adaptations were meant to sell tickets on brand recognition alone. They just don't get any heart and soul put into them.

Star Fox might work as a film. Although, it would be hard to get more than the fanbase in theaters. I bet the average moviegoer will write off a movie about anthropomorphic starfigher pilots as kids' stuff. Let's stick with a TV show or direct to DVD/stream film for now.

Mega man is one of the more mythos-rich franchises here. I would love to see at least a successful (and more serious than the Rubie-Spears show) TV series that later gets a sequel series that follows the X games, and maybe beyond. Capcom just needs to get out of their "if it ain't Street Fighter or Resident Evil, it shouldn't get much attention" mindset.

The perfect Contra movie set sail to "not happenin' land" when Ahnold Schwarzenegger and Sly Stallone aged. A decent Contra movie flew out the window when Konami gave up giving a fuck. (At least a fan film might happen someday.)

Kirby? It might have the highest of the list, but chances are good they'd aim his movie at the super young crowd, despite the hidden dark tones of the series.

Maniac Mansion is too obscure. I forget it exists. A studio would buy the rights only when they really felt desperate for a base for a script, not something they buy with hopes to drawn in people from brand recognition (like most game movies). Then the numerous rewrites would churn out a script unlike anything from the game.

Screw Kirby. Starcraft has the best chance, especially if when the Warcraft movie makes its budget back in the first hour. I also predict it to top South Korean film charts for a long time.

Zelda isn't happening, not by a long shot (pun intended). Nintendo doesn't want Link to talk. Many fans don't want Link to talk. (I'm of the "he speaks, but the player doesn't see the dialog" variety.) Plus, its Ninty's second (non-Pokemon) top tier franchise. Some of the older leadership are probably still feeling the sting of the Mario Bros. movie. (Of course, if by some miracle a good Zelda movie was made, I'd break my personal boycott of cinemas to see it.)

Elder Scrolls is another one I fear Hollywood would dumb down to the point of it being seen as a Tolkien ripoff. The games already draw a lot of inspiration from Lord of the Rings. The rewrites will likely remove most of what sets it apart from other Tolkien-esque media. Being a non-interactive film itself would remove the other aspect that sets it apart: it's your story (read that in Tidus's voice for extra fun).

Speaking of FF, Honestly, I'd rather see a Final Fantasy turn into a film. FFIX is my top choice, since it's a mostly unique fantasy tale that has elements of the previous games in there as well[footnote]Plus, I would totally watch a movie with a hot actress in Garnet's skin tight orange outfit for most of the story.[/footnote] Second vote to FFXII, since it's the next best fit for world wide audiences, IMHO. If only Square Pictures made something like that instead of that weird (albeit decent) movie about ghost aliens set on Earth (as in not a fantasy world the franchise is know for). Although, I wouldn't want today's Squeenix to even think about branching out into film.

The only thing I want to see game related in cinema is Vin Diesel as Megaman. That's a classic waiting to happen.

First thing that came to mind when I saw the title of this gallery was "given the history of movie game adaptations, does any game actually NEED one?" Yes, I am considering the Uwe Boll movies which need to be erased from existence past and present and make me ashamed to be a human being.

Hitman movie was good on it's own merit but literally did NOTHING to bring to light what the games were about, other than being about a bald guy with a barcode on his neck wore a neat suit and killed people.

Max Payne was just ok, at least tied in with the game *somewhat*.

Contra though, would make an awesome movie. Only it's about 30 years too late! Imagine it in the same vein as Commando, Predator, Rambo etc.
