The First Trailer For Seth Rogen's Sausage Party Is Demented

Seth Rogen's tale about animated sentient sausages looks to put the 'R' in Pixar.

Because we live in a world where Seth Rogen can apparently do no wrong, it was announced all the way back in 2010 that the Neighbors star and writing partner Evan Goldberg would be teaming up yet again to bring us an R-rated animated film about talking sausages, not-so-subtly titled Sausage Party. Suffice it to say, no one really knew what to make of the news, and most just attributed it to one of Rogen's stonery musings that probably wouldn't ever see the light of day.

In 2014, however, The Wrap broke the story that not only would this long-gestating project actually be coming to fruition, but that the likes of Kristen Wiig, Jonah Hill, James Franco and Salma Hayek had signed on to voice characters in the film, which I feel compelled to reiterate is about talking sausages.

This week, we've been given our first look at what to expect from Sausage Party via a full-length red band trailer. The film's official description goes like so:

"Sausage Party is about one sausage leading a group of supermarket products on a quest to discover the truth about their existence and what really happens when they become chosen to leave the grocery store."

While certainly bonkers in it's own right, it's not a plot that sounds all that more ridiculous than "a talking rat who dreams of becoming a five-star chef," right? It's basically Toy Story, but with food! The thing is, this being a Seth Rogen production and all, Sausage Party is one of the first Pixar-style animated movies exclusively catered toward the 18+ audience. The amount of f-bombs dropped in this trailer alone argues that Sausage Party may very well attempt to break the dubious swearing record [http://www.guinnessworldrecords.com/news/2014/1/how-the-wolf-of-wall-street-broke-movie-swearing-record-54478/] achieved by Martin Scorsese's The Wolf of Wall Street.

As for the story itself, well...it seems pretty twisted, and features one of the best Saving Private Ryan gags I've ever seen in the long, long history of Saving Private Ryan gags. So it's got that going for it.

Joining Rogen, Wiig, and Hill will be the vocal talents of Bill Hader, Michael Cera, Danny McBride, Craig Robinson, Paul Rudd, Nick Kroll, David Krumholtz, and perhaps most surprisingly, Edward Norton. Sausage Party hits theaters on August 12th.

That was so delightfully fucked up I'm having trouble putting the joy I feel into words. Will definitely watch this one.

See, you know which character is female because it inexplicably has an hourglass figure including tits.

Seriously though, one of the things that makes the big studios actually good at this is that their character design is consistent inside of the world they created. The writing... doesn't seem like it will hold up long, but that will be talked about at length. I just, super don't like the character design from the giant bushy eyebrows sometimes there whenever they feel like who knows to the fact that it's full of inconsistencies like "why are the arms SOMETIMES the same color as their body, and who decides what characters just have mickey-mouse gloves"

Ah, swearing as a substitute for humor, and all the nuance of a four minute flash cartoon, expanded into an hour and a half film. I can't wait to skip this one. I'd love to be proven wrong, but the trailer most certainly does not give me high hopes.

P.S. Thanks

Did Maude Lebowski design that hot dog bun? Because its very vaginal. Which I guess is intentional as she's apparently the love interest for the hero, who is a phallic sausage. Freud would have a field day with this shit...

Also, visual gag of the eyes on potatoes becoming actual eyes that they're covered is actually kind of funny in a slightly horrific way

Why is it that adult animation is restricted to these "comedies?"

Why can't we have adult animated action shows or drama shows?

Anime can get away with this, but the West. (Even Europe) barely tries to unlock the potential of adult animation?

I think this looks hilarious and if you disagree you probably have a boring personality /jk. It would be hilarious if parents took their kids to see it thinking that it's just another animated kids movie.

As funny as that would be, it's rated R, so outside of Canada it's unlikely to happen (we're very lax about that king of thing. I remember my second Deadpool viewing had a guy with his son and daughter, both where 8-10, couldn't have been older or younger then that).

Because no one respects animation enough to do anything that isn't a crude comedy for adults. We're limited to anime and web series for adult animation that isn't juvenile.

Waltz with Bashir is good, Mary and Max is good, and er, that's basically it.

I think it's about time we had a good deconstruction of the "random things are sentient" trope that so many animated films go for and this film looks like it's having a lot of fun with that idea.

Okay okay, I laughed at the visual of the 'gutted' can of spaghetti (?) trying to scoop back in its 'entrails'.

But the jokes didn't really fire for me, so I'm very unlikely to actually watch the movie.

Sausages and buns eh? Stay classy Seth. And the bun's "lips"... just no.

I read that Sacha Baron Cohen said this movie was messed up. I don't know if that's an endorsement or an indictment.

Searching for FUNNY.EXE

Error: File not found.
That was funnier than the entirety of the trailer.

OT: Its looks horribly unfunny. Plus why does the hotdog bun have boobs and look a vagina. Like how worried were they that people wouldn't get its supposed to be a woman that they have to cram all that into one design. Plus it looks like they are making fun of gays with the whole 'twinke' thing.

Fun/10... Better than Food Fight without laughing at the irony...

Other than that, I think I laughed harder than I needed to while watching that trailer...
Thank me... You always got my back...

Anyway, I might watch it the same way I watch other comedies made for adults: Say that I'll watch it in theaters and then don't because no one was going to watch it with me, anyway, on top of my laughter being more suitable for home consumption than for theater consumption...

There's also the Corto Maltese OAV/Movie series and what I am most looking forward to: a feature Film Blacksad movie. Franco:Belgian comics are so rich in adult/R rated animated movie potential.

I'm thinking quite the opposite. Another case of parents who didn't do their research ruining other people's fun by making those others pay with the aftermath of their parenting mistakes. Usually when this sort of thing happens the movie gets pulled from theaters, or at least, gets restricted show times, and where it used to be that it was less likely they're put on a video rental store's shelf now they'd be less likely to make it onto a streaming service. I mean, we had tons of parents bringing their kids to Deadpool even though there was a strong marketing push that basically was "don't bring your kid to this movie".
Jesus Christ. America is not the only country in the world.
