Blade Runner Sequel Releasing Sooner than Expected

Alcon Entertainment has announced that they have changed the Blade Runner sequel's release date. Unlike most changes, this isn't a delay. Instead, the film will now release three months earlier than expected, on October 6, 2017.

Originally slated to hit theaters on January 12, 2018, the movie stars Harrison Ford as Detective Rick Deckard. Ford is joined by Ryan Gosling and Robin Wright.

Story details have not been revealed, but the screenplay was written by Hampton Fancher and David Peoples. The project is directed by Denis Villeneuve. There's also no word on what the project will be titled.

With Star Wars: The Force Awakens, another Indiana Jones film, and now the Blade Runner sequel, we're just an American Graffiti reboot away from filling up our "Harrison Ford's early career" bingo card.

That's nice and all, but is it confirmed yet if the Soldier/Alien/Predator movies do in fact take place in the same setting, or is the overall quality of the series still high given it's lone instalment so far?

Also, what's with the sudden return of the "decades later sequel" trend that was practically abandoned in the 90s and 00s?

I wonder if they will bring Rutger Hauer back? Maybe some CG or a younger actor with strong resemblance to the character Roy Batty. More human than human, replicants on the rise : )

But Blade Runner was perfect...well, it took a couple different cuts but eventually it was perfect. What more could a sequel with Harrison Ford's character possibly add? Something set in the same universe with other characters could have a lot to say, but there was a certain openness in that ending that added a lot (I still know people that swear Deckard was a replicant).

The world of "Blade Runner" certainly has enough depth that I can imagine another worthwhile movie being made within it.

I'm just less than sure we need to explore that movie with Rick Deckard again.

Cool, thanks for the reply! Would you say it is common to say "ay mi dios" over there? I only ever heard "ay dios mio" and I am kind of a sucker for idiomatic differences between dialects.

Nostalgia baiting. That's why. I do like Blade Runner, but even I admit that it gets way too much praise.I call it the Ghost in the Shell effect. Though given the choice between the two, I would take Blade Runner any day over Ghost in the Shell in general; especially the first movie.

The reason why though is that the movie didn't do well during its theatrical run. The theatrical cut is often considered the worse version of the film. Almost all types of media took heavy inspirations from it; movies, games, and anime/manga. Especially the latter two. So many people have copied it that Blade Runner looks unoriginal by comparison. I have the Final Cut Edition, so I am basing my opinion off that one. It's a good movie, but suffers from some slow parts, and has too much hype around it. The performances from everyone is what saves a film that feels average by today's standards. If I had to give it a rating, it would be a 4/5 that barely makes it.
