New Gears of War 4 Shots Show Off the Campaign

The Gears of War 4 [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/166856-Gears-of-War-4-Open-Beta-Details-Announced] beta kicked off today, and Microsoft has released several new screenshots from the game's singleplayer campaign.

We already know that the final game will have microtransactions [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/167172-Gears-of-War-4-to-Have-Microtransactions].

The beta ends on May 1, and if you hit level 20 before then, you'll earn exclusive rewards when the game actually launches on October 11 on Xbox One.

Seems to still be going for the gloom and doom aesthetic that made me love the original game so much, so that's nice.

Haven played the multiplayer beta, though, I'm left annoyed at how this new enemy really feels like the Locust just reskinned. Why not just retcon them back into existence if you're not gonna change anything.

Downloaded the beta overnight but haven't had a chance to play it.

That gun that fires circular saws looks nasty. Reminds me of The Ripper from Dead Space, which was my favourite gun.

Those monsters look really cool. I found the first game to be my favourite of the bunch with the others lacking the doomy but not so edgy atmosphere that made it feel so earnest. I will wait and see how the newest one fairs before I get my hopes up.

Is it just me or did they tone down the appearance of the Gears so that they're not giant man-hulks wearing refrigerators as armor and having index fingers that are twice as big as their ears?

New enemy race, microtransactions....ffs guys let the franchise die and make something new!
