I more or less agree with this review in its entirety "bland" is the operative word here. I remember thinking that the only thing this film can be commended for is the costume design for Freya. Even if I DID have flashbacks to Frozen (yes, same source material I know, but do you think this film would exist if not for Frozen popularizing the snow queen concept?) In fact, the only thing I can disagree with is this film having humour. Um...what humour? True, there's the dwarves, but all the acting is so wooden across the board (especially Hemsworth...I mean, he was bland enough in Thor, but this is making Anakin in AotC look like Han Solo), and the only standout is Freya's character by virtue of Emily Blunt capturing the essence of being 'not quite there.' Though I imagine there'd be some who umbrage to the fact that it takes losing a child to push her into tyranical rule. Because only losing children affects females, and it's only through loss that females will do anything nasty.
Oh, and that teaser at the end? No. Just no.
For me, Winter's War is the worst film I've seen this year. And having seen the likes of Batman v Superman, Pride & Prejudice & Zombies, and Gods of Egypt, that's some impressive company.
