Hearthstone's New Murloc Shaman Hero Unlocked Via Recruit-a-Friend

To unlock Morgl the Oracle, you'll have to recruit a friend to Hearthstone and have them reach level 20.

When Blizzard first introduced alternate hero skins [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/7.876386-Hearthstone-Adds-Cosmetic-Alternate-Hero-Skins-For-10-Each] for Hearthstone, they came with a hefty $10 price tag. Needless to say, it wasn't particularly well received, and the company has been experimenting with alternate ways of unlocking new heroes. Lady Liadrin, for example, is unlocked by reaching level 20 in World of Warcraft, while Morgl the Oracle, the just-revealed "Murloc Shaman" hero is a reward for recruiting a friend.

Here's how it works: you'll send a friend a referral link, which ties them to your account. Once your friend signs up for an account and reaches a combined hero level of 20, then you will unlock Morgl as a playable hero. As an added incentive, you can also get up to 4 free classic packs by having additional friends hit level 20.

No friends? All your friends already playing Hearthstone? No problem. Hearthpwn has put together a quick guide [http://www.hearthpwn.com/news/1517-the-easy-way-of-obtaining-morgl-the-oracle] on how to unlock him the easy way.

The patch also brings with it a handful of bug fixes and visual upgrades, which you can read about here [http://us.battle.net/hearthstone/en/blog/20177158/hearthstone-update-july-12-2016-7-12-2016].

The thing I hate about refer-a-friend systems is that when they're implemented so late, all of my friends who'd have any interest in the game are already playing it.

At least there's Hearthpwn's method. But it feels very depressing recruiting yourself to the game.
Pretty much. My friend who brought me to the game could have gotten it if it was implemented early. Me as well since I got my brother to play. Rest of my friends either aren't interested at all or are playing the game for far longer than I am.

So I just finished the self referral way and got it. The Murloc is really cute. I wish his emotes would have longer sounds. I love those.

Pushing people to leverage their friendships in a hard sell campaign in exchange for "new hero"? Yeah, that's still scummy.

Man, Blizzard can't seem to get the new hero skins thing right.

They got a lot of backlash for selling them, but that's mostly because they were of low quality; the Hunter skin was particularly bad and not worth the asking price.

Now they're creating new characters just for Hearthstone heroes, AND requiring us to pester our friends for it.

Blizzard is better than this.

Seems way to late for a referral reward, just gives everyone who wants it the chore of leveling up an alt account before abandoning it.

In their defense, some data mining showed that Morgl is actually going to be a character in legion. How important, or even if he's a non-hostile npc, I can't say. But it's a pseudo-promo for their latest thing as well.
