Pokemon GO Has Now Been Downloaded an Estimated 75 Million Times

Pokemon GO is continuing its record-setting pace, and has now passed 75 million downloads worldwide.

The phenomenal success of Pokemon GO continues. SensorTower [https://sensortower.com/blog/pokemon-go-50-million-downloads], a mobile app tracking company, reports that over the weekend, Niantic's Pokemon game reached the 50 million download mark on Google Play alone. Since Pokemon GO launched in Australia and New Zealand on July 5, that means it took only 19 days to hit the 50 million install mark on Android. That's the fastest of any app ever made. It's also the fastest app to hit 50 million combined installs on iOS and Android, as you can see in the chart below.

Furthermore, SensorTower estimates that Pokemon GO has now passed 75 million installs worldwide. This fact is made all the more impressive when you realize that the game has only launched in 32 markets so far. There are over 100 possible markets, so if Pokemon GO continues its success, the numbers could be staggering. SensorTower says that "It may not be unreasonable for the game to pass 100 million downloads in its first 60 days, especially if some of the planned gameplay updates hit sooner rather than later."

No matter what happens down the road for Pokemon GO, its success to this point has been almost mind-boggling to watch. The effects it's had on gaming, gatherings, and Nintendo's stock price [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/168017-Nintendo-Shares-Fall-as-Investors-Discover-it-Does-Not-Actually-Own-Pokemon-GO] has been amazing to watch. At this point, it's hard to be surprised by any record it breaks.

Go to a park, or any place with a lot of Pokestops. Then, look around.

Yeah, the idea that 75 million people have downloaded the game is not hard to fathom. I went to a park with friends and literally everyone there was playing it. We would pass by people and hear them talking about which Pokemon they had and which they were trying to get. It really is insane.

I don`t believe it,after years of giggling and pointing at Nintendo`s recent mediocrity, they finally got something that blows everything else out of the water.

Absolutely fantastic for the game industry,as well. If Nintendo really holds on to this recent popularity,we could possibly see people come to the idea of "not all games are military shooters."

I wouldn't hold my breath. I doubt Activision's market analysts consider the typical Call of Duty purchaser to also fall in line with Pokemon Go. For every person I've met that was playing it or that enjoyed hearing about it, there were two or three who more or less considered it a kid's game, or a product that's beneath them. One particularly idiotic relative of mine didn't see the point of Pokemon Go "because there's nothing to shoot at" in it.

Holding a weapon and using it is so synonymous with gaming for a lot of people that only competitive sports games get considered, otherwise - as marksmanship is just as competitive.

But at least the idea is there. And it`s still growing. It reminds me of how religion spreads in Civ 5 when someone builds the Borobudur. Missionaries spread the faith. GO players = Missionaries. The more people that get invested, the more notoriety that can be raised for video games.

I know it`s a short straw to grasp at,but just maybe....?

Hm. Maybe, yeah, and I'll admit I've actually installed the thing on my phone - but I don't feel exactly hard-pressed to head out and grab the Pokeymans. I'd keep it for when personal obligations involve some form of travel, and I'd snag whatever beastie happens to be nearby. Considering, I wouldn't count myself as a devotee.

As for the flock converting more individuals; I'm also unsure. Like I said, some people will inevitably see anything Pokemon-related as being childish or beneath their interest. Yet, slap Ingress on their phone and they'll come running - seeing as Pokemon Go isn't much more than Ingress slathered in a fresh coat of corporate paint.

The mechanics could draw in followers, but the premise has its limits.
