Report: StarCraft HD Remaster in Development

//cdn.themis-media.com/media/global/images/library/deriv/1340/1340738.jpg

A remastered version of StarCraft is in development, according to a new report.

A new report from Korean site Kotaku [http://news.inews24.com/php/news_view.php?A new report from Korean site <a href=]) claims that Blizzard Entertainment is expected to launch a high-definition remaster of StarCraft.

According to the report, StarCraft HD is expected to be announced in September, while further details will come in November during BlizzCon. Citing "multiple sources with knowledge of Blizzard internal plans," the report claims that the original gameplay will remain intact, but that StarCraft HD will have "improved graphics resolution and user interface."

It's difficult to determine the accuracy of such reports, but September isn't too far off, so at least we don't have to wait long for an answer either way.

As long as I can get 20+ lings through a chokepoint in under 20 minutes, I'm in.

Well after the complete mess that was Starcraft 2, I guess this is a good thing? Then again Brood Wars was shit.

I would've preferred a Warcraft HD remaster, but that's probably on the pipeline too.

OK time to debate what is wrong with Starcraft 2 and Brood War?

IKR, I can't even remember what Brood Wars is!

I thought they already had this...and for free...

It's called StarCraft: Mass Recall, a mod that translated SC and BW into SCII's engine/graphics.

Dunno about brood war (it introduced medics so playing sc without brood war is unthinkable to me) but one thing I really hated about Starcraft 2 was the tendency for units to super blob together, when you see starcraft 1 pro matches, it looks more like an actual battle with units fighting across a wider front, whereas in starcraft 2 pro matches are often the battle of the blobs.

Tbh I'd welcome a modern dust up with super detailed high quality sprites, they have a charm which 3d models fail to emulate imo, it's why I'll always view the 2d xcom games as looking more atmospheric/scary then 3d ones like the firaxis remakes.

I hope you have legitimate criticism for 2. :p I see too many people say that Starcraft II is shite, because they have not been around long enough to understand that Starcraft is a space opera over rednecks in space, and then they ***** and moan about stuff like the cheesy Raynor/Kerrigan romance.

As for Brood Wars being shit... I don't think that I have ever heard that before.

One of the interesting aspects of this is how much it'll throw off the balance of the game. A wider viewing area will affect the existing balance quite a bit. If they also added unlimited unit selection or smartcasting, it'd totally break the game.

Unlimited units breaking the game? I want to see pros go and fight out a 400 zergling vs 200 marine battle. Just imagine the blood...

Can't speak for Brood War because it is a pretty excellent expansion pack, but I found that Starcraft 2's storytelling was easily the weakest part of the game. It's difficult to go from a local squabble in the Koprulu Sector to a vast galaxy threatening invasion by the Hybrids and not feel like something went wrong in the transition to the sequel.

The hybrids were heavily hinted at in Brood War. It's just a shame that a lot of content was exclusive to the N64 port, because, like you said, it makes it seem as if there is a huge jump in the plot and its severity.

I...really don't care.

Which is odd, because while SC2 pretty much trumps SC1 on every front, SC1 was still solid, and still quite playable last time I checked, bar some annoyances. If you're leaving those annoyances in, and just giving it a facelift, then it feels a bit redundant.

Now, if you remade Warcraft I & II, that would be a different story.

Galaxy? You make this sound way too grounded. The entire universe or multiverse or whatever was under threat. They had to go to a pocket reality to fight a crazed dark god from beyond time and space and his trans-dimensional army of psychic energy monsters. Then one of the main characters ascended to a higher plane of existence after combining souls with Cthulu, who had been guiding them with visions and prophecies of future events. I don't know what the heck the folks at Blizzard were smoking to come up with this.

This had better not be THE major announcement at BlizzCon.

Diablo III is due for a new expansion, and daddy wants his Druid.
